What Are You Feeding Your Yorkies Hi everyone, I was was wondering what you guys are feeding your yorkies? Are you sticking to hard food only or are you feeding them soft food. I come from Toronto, Ontario and we have now become the capital in Canada for yorkie owners and lovers. Here in Toronto vets are only prescribing hard food. Since yorkies have such hard sharp teeth they don't prescribe soft food of any kind due to the fact that soft food stain the teeth and leave tartar that will only come off with professional cleaning. Just asking what do you guys think. I only feed my yorkie Chiquita Royal Canin Yorkie food, what are you guys feeding your yorkie. Love to know Troie |
I feed mine Chicken Soup for the Puppy Lovers Soul kibble and Canidae All Life Stages kibble mixed sprinkled with Missing Link. No soft food here. |
What Are You Feeding Your Yorkie I don't know what chicken soup for dogs is, but I love the fact that you know not to feed your Yorkie any soft food at all. Lets hear some more answers, it is so interesting to see if people are aware that even if a yorkie is tiny they only need hard food. Unless the yorkie has a digestive problem or and allergy to their food, hard food is the way to go. The fist thing to go on a yorkie at any age is the teeth. Keep those teeth chewing and eating hard food and your yorkie's teeth will shine. Of course brushing always helps too. Troie:) |

I feed Jake Royal Canine Yorkshire also. |
I feed Sadie (2 1/2 yrs old) Nutro Adult and Lillie (17wks old) Nutro Ultra Puppy. I do give them soft food (Nutro) with their kibbles once a day...I only give them 3 little chunks each, cut up....kinda like a treat. They have free dry kibbles throughout the day. |
I feed my boys Merrick dry - they love the Cowboy Cookout and Grammy's Pot pie. I also mix in a small amount of Royal Canin #30 for fussy small breeds. They have never eaten canned food and their teeth are in pretty good shape so far. :aimeeyork |
I feed mine Royal canin hard then they both get a half a tin of caesars in the morning |
I feed my the half Nutro Puppy and half Solid Gold wee bits and then a little bit of the Nutro canned food mixed in w/ ML sprinkled in that is the only way he will eat his food...i have tried soooo many other kinds too and this is the only thing he will eat ..:animal-pa he is just sooo picky and nothing seems to work |
Me too! Quote:
That is also what I feed Little Bit. I also try to make sure her treats are hard.:) |

NEAT! Great minds think alike, huh? ;) |
I have tried food after food and had so many digestive problems. i have now settled on on the new Royal Canin mini bites Dental. Seems to agree with them all and is good food that is helpful for their teeth ! Last thing I tried was Canine Caviar which is a wonderful organic food, unfortunately a couple of my dogs got horrid loose stools from it so I had to discontinue. Seems like settling on the right food for them is the biggest problem with Yorkies ! |
Both of my yorkies 2 1/2 and 4 months eat Royal Canin in the morning and chicken and rice (their treat) in the evening. I leave the dry Royal Canin out during the day. |

I used to free feed but now I feed my dogs three times a day. I use Royal Canin Yorkshire Terrier for Darla and the puppy Royal Canin for Reece. My big dog Sadie likes a cheaper dog food and so do the little ones so I have to watch they dont sneak bites of her food and they love when they get away with a big ol nugget of it lol...of course my big dog Sadie loves if she gets a bite of their food?? Go figure.. Dawn |

Dry food only, every now and then some people food but this is rare. I buy Natural Lite I think is the name of it. Lamb & Rice formula. They love it. They are eating as I type this. |
Currently Kona and Bernie get a mix of Chicken Soup for the Puppy and Merricks. For dinner I mix in a little bit of raw food for them...they love that more than the Merrick's wet that I sometimes mix in. |
Gracie is currently liking Nutro puppy, dry and wet. She will also eat Royal Canin Dry, and Chicken Soup Puppy dry. She liked Merrick for a while but then suddenly stopped eating it. |
we'll give nugget soft food sometimes as a treat.....he gets jealous of the cat's soft food |
Katy gets Royal Canin as well. For a while it was the only thing should would eat. I tolf the lady at the day care that Katy is very picky but she let me know yesterday that she didn't know why I said that. Evidently she will eat anything that all of the other dogs are eating. Hmmmmm. |

Look at this thread. It gives a breakdown of what people are feeding their yorkie: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...ighlight=Nutro |
What are you feeding your yorkie Hi everyone, Again you all came thru with your ideas and shared your feeding habits and everyone is benefiting from what you all said. I love Yorkie talk because you all have something to say that some of us didn't know. I myself have only fed Chiquita Royal Canin. But this little 5lb dog also gets treats all day long. Because she is outside so much and has so much activity in the house she drink a bucket of water and eats everything including all her food and treats. I feed her only organic treats but alot. I use all her treats for training and when she completes some task that I have taught her, she knows she is getting her treat. I only put her treats in her food bowl with her food and never from my hand. She only gets treats from my hand when she is outside and is being trained. She eats like a horse and never gains a pound. How are you guys feeding your yorkie treats and what are you giving them? Troie |

My two don't get TOO many treats. They get a treat before I leave for work in the mornings, they get a treat when I leave the house after lunch to go back to work, and they may get a treat or two at night for doing something good, like going outside. Hootie gets mostly Milkbones. She LOVES them. She is just now starting to lose baby teeth and she's cutting adult teeth. The Milkbones help her shed those baby teeth so hopefully she won't have to get many pulled. Hobbs likes a Milkbone every now and then, but he doesn't particularly care for them. He is a year old and has already lost his baby teeth. Since he doesn't care too much for the Milkbones, he gets soft treats like Pupperoni or BilJac Liver treats. |
I give Snickers and Baxter treats first thing in the morning so they have something in their stomach before breakfast. They usually get a couple of chicken/rice balls and some Pampered pet oatmeal treats. Mid-afternoon they get another treat - I rotate between MilkBone Gravy bones, By Nature spiced molasses treat, and Daisy's Deli yogurt dipped bones. They LOVE those. :aimeeyork |
Burns Mini bites puppy food but will be changing over to Burns chicken and rice when he's old enough:) |
