Rexy may have eaten Advil Dear Friends, I just got home from the emergency vet clinic. My precious Rexy may have eaten some advil. It was my mom's, she lives with me, and he went into her bedroom, got the advil bottle, and chewed off the lid. There were no pills in the bottle when we found him - but my mom did not know if it was empty or not - she thinks it may have been an empty bottle, which would mean he didn't eat any, but we can't be sure. Of course, we have to treat him like he ate some, just to be on the safe side. At the emergency hospital they induced vomiting and found bottle lid pieces, no pills, but we aren't sure how long he had been in the bedroom getting into the bottle. They will keep him on IV fluids, give him charcoal, and do baseline kidney function tests. We had to leave him at the hospital tonight and we have to pick him up tomorrow morning and take him to his regular vet. Please keep us in your thoughts. I just feel like he didn't eat any - but of course, I can't be sure. I will update you tomorrow after we see our regular vet. It nearly broke my heart to leave him at the emergency hospital - I know he will be so scared. At the same time, I want him to be monitored and cared for, if he should show signs of drug poisoning. It's already 10:00PM here, so only 8 more hours and I can bring him home. But I think I may have to leave him at his regular vet tomorrow - but he knows them and I know them and I will feel better about that. Thanks for being here. |
Oh my goodness! HOW SCARY!! I am saying a Prayer for Rexy that hopefully he didn't get any of it, but if he did - I hope and Pray that he is alright! Please let us know how he is tomorrow! |
I'll be praying for your baby and for you too. Hope all is ok. |
Praying for you, your mom & Rexy I'm with you, I'm believing he just got an empty bottle. Isn't there anyway they could test to see if it was in his stomach? Your poor mom, she must feel so bad. Give her a big hug. I'm sure she needs it and you do too.:love-hug3 |
I'm sorry you're going through this. I would have thought there was some way to tell if he had ingested any. Too bad you have to go through all the steps even if he didn't eat any, but we all know doing nothing could be a lot worse if he did. Please give us an update when you get further information. I'll say a prayer for him and ask for comfort for you all because I know how hard it is to be away from these little ones. |
Sending prayers your way! |
How is he doing today? I hope all is ok. He is added to our prayer list. |
I too am sending prayers your way....Bella ate 2 advill this summer and I called a hotline and they said to induce the vomiting....which I did....probobly 5-10 min. after she had eaten them. She acted fine all that day, but when I woke in the morning there were 3 big piles of vomit on the floor . That morning I rushed her to the vet and they did all kinds of tests....he showed me a picture of her stomach which had a red ulcer type of thing about the size of a dime in it. He gave us 2 kinds of meds and said she would be fine. Which she was :p Im sure your baby will be ok. Definately better safe than sorry and it was a really good move that you took her to the vet. Good luck hun, please keep us posted.:hands: :hands: :hands: :hands: :hands: :hands: :hands: :hands: :hands: |
Sending prayers that it was an empty bottle!!:) |
Sending prayers your way. It may be hard to leave him at the hospital, but this way its better to way on the side of caution..:hands: :hands: :hands: :hands: :hands: :getwell: |
Hi All! Thanks for your kind words and prayers. We are home from the ER vet clinic and will be heading to our vet office in a few minutes. Rexy did fine through the night. His kidney function tests are normal - which you would expect since they were done immediately after the advil episode. They said he ate well this morning - but then Rexy always eats well, I guess though, if he were feeling badly, he wouldn't eat. Anyway, we are headed out soon for his regular vet office. I'll let you know how that turns out. Thanks again for all your concern. |
I hope all turns out well. Hopefully Rex didn't eat any pills, just the bottle!! They sure keep us hopping!! |
Glad to hear Rexy is okay. What a scare you had |
We just got home from our regular vet. He said Rexy checked out great - he doesn't show any signs of advil poisoning and so he let us bring him home. That's great news! However, he did caution us that it is possible he ate one or two pills - so we have to push chicken broth or water or any fluids that he will drink and watch him closely. We have to watch him pee every time he goes, to be sure there isn't any blood in the urine and if there is we have to take him back immediately. If his urine stays clear today, then he says he is probably home free! YES!!!!! :D What a scare! I am off to the store to buy my mom some plastic containers to keep all her pill bottles in - I surely don't want to go through this again - not to mention that we have a granddaughter (and great granddaughter) due to be born any day now. We haven't had any little ones in the house for a long time and so I guess my mom had gotten lazy about keeping her medications put away. No more of that!!! Thanks to everyone who responded to my need for support. I truly appreciate all my YT friends!!! :) |
So glad to hear your baby is feeling ok.. It happens so fast these little ones get in to trouble. |
