A question on neutering Hi everyone....:animal-pa My little Skittles now weighs 4.7 lbs. he was born on June 30, 2006...the vet I go to said he could be neutered anytime now. Should I have him neutered now or should I waited. He is 15 weeks as of today. And is there any place to get a discount on having them neutered? I don't know what is the best thing to have done neuter or not to neuter. Thank you, Debbie:aimeeyork |
Usually they are neutered at around 6 months. If you are not planing on using him as a stud (for breeding) I would definitely have him neutered. Un-neutered males "mark"...which is not a pleasant thing :thumbdown Also, I know neutering/spaying your pets can get expensive, but I honestly wouldn't be worrying about trying to find a discount :( Since our babies are so little, we need to make sure that we use the best vets around to have ANY type of surgical procedures done on our precious little ones :) Choose the vet that you trust the most, and make sure that they use GAS to put him to sleep versus injecting them with an anesthesia. P.S.- It is a good idea to have complete blood work done on your baby before putting them under for surgery, just to make sure that there are no underlying problems  |
What I meant by a discount wasn't meant just anyone was going to do the surgery. I was meaning maybe coupons to help that would make the cost a little easier on the pocket. No way would I just let anyone do surgery on my baby. And I don't plan on using him for stud service. |

Some vets will neuter earlier than 6 months, but tradition is to do it around 6 months old. It's up to you. I'd talk more to your vet about his/her reasons for doing it early. Also, make sure that wherever you go to get his neuter done they use isofluorine or sevofluorine as an anesthesia. It's the same kind that is used on humans and your puppy will come out of surgery much quicker. |
LOL I haven't heard of it either but thought I would give it a try. :lol tears I am going to get him neutered just wondering if having it done at his age would it be too soon? :yorkietal |

Go onto friendsofanimals.org you can get a spay/neuter cert. Check with your vet and see if they take them, mine does. |
The benefits of neutering far outweigh the benefits of not neutering. I got Hobbs neutered at 5 months old. He still squats to pee and he has never humped anything. I think the earlier, the better if you want to keep him squatting to pee and if you want to prevent humping. |
Thanks so much I am going to check and see if the vet takes them. Every little bit helps. |
Well there is only one vet near here that will accept that cert. :tongue4: I don't want to take my baby to several vets. Best to stay with one. :animal-pa |
Yes I am going to get Skittles neutered soon as I can. As of right now I lost my grandma so I am going home for a few days. |
