Breeding Hi all - I am new to Yorkie Talk and want to say hello! I have two female yorkies who are both 16 months old and are entering their 2nd heat. I want so much to breed one of them (not to sell the pups) but am a little scared. It would kill me if something happened to one of them. Can any of you give me some advice or point me in the right direction? I have a family member with a male about the same size. Is there a book I should read or a website I should visit? Any information would be helpful! As soon as I figure out how to get a picture uploaded of my girls, I will do so! They are beautiful! Thanks! Sean |
read read read Get your vets advice first make sure your girls are healthy and get a Canine Brucellosis test done on both the male and female .READ READ READ everything you can on dog pregnancy. Try to find a local breeder and pick their brain. Make sure it is something you really want to do, because things can go terribly wrong. You take the chance of losing pups or worst your female. good luck to you |
Thanks for your response! I have talked to my vet and he said that he felt as if either of them would do fine. They both have regualr check-ups and (as far as I know) are completely healthy. I will have the test that you mentioned performed - on mine and on the male. As I mentioned, I am a little scared about breeding one of them because I am fearful something might go wrong. We haven't completely decided to go through with it and will definitely continue to read! |
