Growling Girl! Hi! I have a gorgeous little female that is the sweetest thing....99.5% of the time. There are occasions however, that she is unbelievably mean, especially if I try to take something from her that she isn't ready to give up.....like a bone or if she doesn't feel like being brushed etc. She literally bites at me and won't give up. I don't either and I do always follow through, but this behavior doesn't seem to be getting any better. I took her to her first professional grooming session and they charged me EXTRA because she is so difficult. AND she's only 6 LBS! I'm not sure what else to do about it. Any suggestions???? I don't want a biting dog...for any reason. Thanks for any help! |
I might getting a squirt bottle with water, and keeping it with you when you are ready to take something away from her. If she bites squirt her. It won't hurt her. If she's really stubborn then get a metal can and put some pennys in it. When she does something you don't want her to shake it real hard. It scares the heck out of them, but it doesn't hurt them, and they usually pick up very fast. |
When she startsgrowling or biting clap your hands together loudly and say no. Chachi always stops what he is doing when I do this |
At this point, your puppy thinks SHE is the pack leader. You definately need to establish dominance and let her know that YOU are the pack leader and that YOU are in charge, not her. Always be firm with her. Take her on walks daily and always walk in front of her. Scold her when she growls at you like this by clapping you hands like Chachi suggested. When she has a bone, work on taking it away from her by using a treat to entice her to give it to you. If she puts the bone down for the treat, give her the treat but then give her bone back to her so she'll know that you are not taking the bone for good. You definately need to work on establishing dominance with your puppy. You may also want to check out Ceaser Milan's website (The Dog Whisperer). I know he has some excellent techniques on how to establish dominance wtih your dog. GOOD LUCK! |
Hi I just wanted to say Hello:wavey: And welcome to YT.:D |
Thank you!!! I will definitely try these suggestions! I know SHE"S IN CHARGE!!! And I know it's my fault because she is spoiled rotten. Bad "mommy skills" I guess! She is the love of my life and I am just too easy on her! I guess it's time for a little tough love! Thanks again for all the advice. I will keep in touch!!! |

Every once and a while Layla get out of place and thinks she is the boss.. if she is playing with something she shouldn't.. and she will growl and want me to chase her.. what works for us is i grab her and put her on her back... that lets her know i am in charge.. and she stops what she is doing real fast! i've only had to do it about twice.. but i read that is what the "leader of the pack" will do to let the others know they run the show... |
