My baby gaines weight! We went to the vet today..boy I was eager to know how much he weighs. Three weeks ago, he was about 2.4kg (5.3 pounds). Today he is 2.85kg (6.3 pounds)!!! 1 pound in 3 weeks! Also, before the vet said he could only feel one testicle. Today, he has two!!! :D He is a full boy :) Does anyone know if its a matter of fact that if you neuter your puppy at 6 months, they tend to grow bigger than if they are neutered at 12 months of age? I have read it somewhere but is not sure if it is true? |
I'd like to know it,too. |
It is true with golden retrievers. My vet explained why but that has been a couple of years ago and I can't remember the facts--so I won't even try to explain. I might add that I don't know the exact ages--I think they (GR) should be neutered around 6 months. |
I have always heard that they will grow more the later you get them neutered. |
It is true that if you neuter before reaching sexual maturity, your pet will grow more. http://www.exoticbengals.com/spay.htm The reason I ask is because although I do want to neuter my baby, I do not want him to even bigger. He is already a pretty big yorkie and i am carry him around..his full weight is estimated to be 10-11 pounds and i do still want to carry him around but if neutering will make him grow to 15pounds or 20pounds, i would rather wait. I don't think anyone could lug a 15pounds-20 pounds in a bag walking all around town. |
All my Yorkies are spayed or neutered and they don't have an ounce of fat . I keep them exercised , changed their diet . |

Glad to hear your boys balls both dropped!;) And I'm glad he's gaining weight! That's healthy!!! |
Even though there has always been a lot of talk about the relation between a male dog's growth/size and being neutered.... A recent Vet Journal came out within the past year and said that after a controlled two-year study - no difference was really found.... *** I know a lot of people will say it does make a difference - but this is really only an opinion.....and not fact. So - I'll go along with the recent study - and say - it makes no difference. Carol Jean |
