Neutering Tomorrow. They Made Me Feel AWFUL!!!! I need positive thoughts, guys! Bengi is getting neuter tomorrow. I read about it, asked to vets, asked here in YT... I know it's the right thing to do, it's better for Bengi, better for me, and it's a simple procedure... most about it I know. But yesterday I went to my mom's house for dinner. We were like 8 in the table. So I told them that Bengi is getting neuter on Friday (some of them kinda knew already), so they all looked at me like if I were some kind of bad person  , they said "Oh no! poor Bengi! why are you going against his nature, blablabla..." I love Bengi so much and it's hard when they make you feel like you don't love him! :( I'm pretty sure everything will go fine, but what if anything happens??? they will blame me for choosing this! Please pray that everything will go smooth and he will have a fast recovery! :hands: |
thats not right of them to say that...don't they realize the health benefits of getting him neutered...less health risks...try and not worry about the surgery...he'll do fine...its very routine...lots of thoughts and prayer with Benji tomorrow |
Prayer's coming your way for both of you. You are doing the right thing. Don't feel guilty or scared. As long as you have faith in your vet things will go fine and Benji will be a better pet for it. Not to mention it is better for his health if he is not going to be use as a stud. Keep us informed on his progress. |
He's yours, so you do what is best. Everything will be just fine.......good luck! |
Your baby will be fine. Its your choice so what anyone else thinks really doesn't matter. I know its frustrating when ppl talk but it comes down to you and what choice you are making. And yes call me chicken..I know I have to get mine in but I'm just so scared. Once I settle into my new home I will get them fixed...That will be sometime in December. |
You are doing what you feel is best for your baby, be confident in that decision. I like to hear other's thoughts and perspectives but ultimately I make a decision on what I'm comfortable with. I hope all goes well and wish him a speedy recovery.:) |
You're doing the right thing. Piccolo was neutered 2 weeks ago so I know what are you going through. I didn't sleep the night before the surgery and almost cancel it because I was so scared. But everything went smoothly. They also pulled 3 of his baby teeth so if your baby has any left - do it at the same time. Oh, and they also put a microchip. I picked him up in the evening though they wanted him to stay overnight in the hospital. Three days later he was his usual "holly terror" So, please, please, don't worry. You both will be happier, trust me. |
Aw try not to worry Benji is gonna be fine and you are doing the best thing for him |
It's getting closer... Thank you YTers! I have to drop him tomorrow at 8:30 AM and then pick him up at 4 PM. I think I'm ready... (probably I won't sleep tonight :shocked7q I'll keep you guys updated! |
You are doing the right thing! My husband calls it violating! But I saved my dogs life once doing that and did not even know it. She had a golf ball size cyst that was about to rupture. It made us both feel better. She is nine now and healthy. But I wouldnt havr taken her she would not be with us today. So don tlisten to others go with what your heart tells you.... |
Aww I'm sorry your family made you feel that way. But what they say or think doesn't matter ... it's your responsibility to put your babys health needs FIRST regardless of what anyone says!! So keep your head up with pride because you're doing the BEST thing for your baby!! |
I will pray for you and it is the right thing. I had charlie done and he is fine. |
dont listen to them, your doing the right thing..  |
Prayers for you & your pup I'm sorry that your family made you feel guilty. You are definitely doing the right thing. If it were me, I would print out information about the need for spaying & neutering our pets. How about that news article that was posted earlier from the Victoria Advocate? I would bombard them with the numbrer of pets that are abandoned/killed/euthanized each year. I would be sure to point out how many pups an unneutered male could father in his lifetime. I would ask them if they would agree to take all pups he fathered and be responsible for them & their subsequent offspring. Ooh, I almost fell off my soapbox. This is just an area I feel strongly about. Probably you should just say, "I respect your opinion, but I believe this is the right decision for me, my dog and all of society, I'm sorry you don't agree.":) |
My vet told me if all human men were fixed that we wouldn't have the probles with prosate cancer. LOL |
Thinking Of You Please try to ignore what others say when it is not helpful or positive, I know it is hard. But you know you are doing the best you can. Please let us all know how he gets on... Our thoughts are with you. :) |
I bet there are plenty of males in the family that were circumcised.... wonder why they weren't allowed to be "natural?" ... anyway... My mom and aunt whined about me putting Scooter in a crate at night. It’s like I told them, “you wouldn’t let a baby wander around unsupervised at night.” I sleep like the dead and Scooter's a sneak, so there's no way I'm letting him run around alone at night, getting into goodness knows what. Some folks can’t see past the furry cuteness of yorkies to realize that they are real responsibilities. We have to do what’s best for them, even when it’s not comfortable for us or them, just like we would do for a child. If your family can't accept that, then just change the subject to something more constructive like...their recent weight gain (just kidding). I’m sure everything will be fine. I was worried a lot the night before Scooter had his operation, but it ended up being no big deal. Just try to relax and get through it. |
Neutering Again, like everone else. You are doing the right thing. Maybe your family doesn't realize the benefits of neutering. When I fixed my dog, I think it was worse on me the the dog. My thoughts and prayers:aimeeyork are with you and your dog. |
That's so unfair of them to judge you like that. You are doing the right thing and Bengi will be healthier because of it. Don't pay any attention to them. He can still do "what comes natural", but there won't be any problems arising from it. And don't worry, Bengi will sail thru his surgery like a trooper and you both will be much happier because of it. Sending prayers for a speedy recovery. |
Don't feel bad you know your doing whats best for your pup and thats what matters. |
Just came back!!! I just came back from the Vet. Bengi was looking at me with a face like saying "Mamma, don't leave meee!" :( I know he'll be fine. They are going to pull 2 teeth and trim his nail too. Now I'm at work and I can't concentrate, ahhhhhhhhhhh   Everything will be fine, everything will be fine...  |
He will be fine. Hopefully today will fly by for ya! Do you get to pick him up this afternoon? |
:aimeeyork You are doing the right thing. Don't worry about the family they maybe a little old fashion or maybe a little nervous to but don't know know how to show it. He'll be fine. |

How is the lil guy doing today? |
Some of my family and friend didn't understand why I was neutering Howie either. When you tell them that it actually helps them live a longer healthier life it usually shuts them up. How is the little guy today?? |
Don't worry about what peoples think or say . I'll pray for him . |
You made the right decision for your baby. Hope he is feeling better today. We will keep little Benji in our prayers! |
Update on Bengi Bengi is doing pretty good. Yesterday when we came from the vet he was weak and slept most of the time. During the night, he slept by my side; I wanted to make sure he wouldn't leak himself. In the middle of the night he started to cry a little bit, so I gave him the pain medicine; after a while he went back to sleep again. Today he did good too, but he didn't eat much; I had to leave for a couple of hours so I took him to my mom's, so she could check on him. She told me he throwed up in her couch. She said it wasn't food, but like a mucus substance. Did anybody experienced something like this? could it be the anesthesia, or the medicines he received? |
When I wanted to get my first post-wedding dog neutered my new husband said, "What! Am I next??!!??" Sometimes people just take these things too personally. We just have to ignore these emotional reactions. After 31 years of marriage my husband is now resigned to neutered dogs. He doesn't seem to identify with them anymore. And now we have a spayed female, so he sailed through that without a qualm. |
