Eating? How much does a yorkie normally eat in a day? Does it depend on what kind of food you feed them? I feed my dog Royal Canin for puppies. Will they typically stop eating when they are full or will they just eat until they are sick? The reason I ask is because my puppy has gained maybe a pound in the last week. I have a great dane also. They have been eating out of the same bowl until last week. So I think the dane has been getting most of the food. I started putting Duke:animal36 outside while Butters:aimeeyork eats. I think maybe he is just eating a normal amount now, but I am not really sure what a normal amount is for him. On the back of the food bag it has a scale for how much they should eat. The problem is that the size only goes down to 5lbs and Butters weights 2lbs. For 2lbs they should be eating 1/2 cup per day which doesn't seem like very much. If I cut it down to 2lbs he would hardly be getting anything to eat. What should I do? |

I open feed all of mine and have never had an overweight Yorkie. They do seem to take growth spurts as puppies and then won't gain anything the next week. I wouldn't worry too much about her weight at this point and continue to give her open access to dry. |
When my pup was around 11-12 weeks old the vet gave me a scooper and told me 1/3 a cup of dry per day. Now, as he's a little older, he gets 1/2 for the day (I free feed) and a handful for the night. He eats his pig ears and flossies as well, also a few treats during the day. It might also depend how big a kibble is, 1/2 cup of bigger kibble is not the same as 1/2 cup the smallest kibble on the market. Pepper is not fat but is not skinny as well... |
