Travel suggestions Hi, I am planning a trip to Vegas in the end of June and would like to bring Dutch with me. The hotel is very pet friendly and apparently provides the royal treatment-- complete with on call vet! I can leave him at home, but it seems like a great chance to get him used to traveling. The flight from SF is only an hour and it's just a 4 night trip, so seems like the right circumstances to bring him along. I'm just wondering how people deal with logistics. I'm not so worried about the flight-- he is extremely well behaved when in his crate, and he loves it to death. I'm more worried about how people leave them in the hotel by day. He can hold his bladder and bowels for 8 hours in the crate, so my plan is to leave him in there and make sure to swing back to check in and let him potty a few times per day. I am thinking about leaving him in a bellyband just in case there is an accident in the crate so I don't have to bring liters of cleaners with me. I would rather not let him run around the room as it is an extremely nice hotel and he is not averse to pottying on the carpet. I'm thinking I'll put a pad in the bathroom and let him go in there a few times per day when I'm in the room then leave him crated with a band, toys and his music when I'm not around. Has anyone had such an arrangement work favorably? Also, how exactly to the belly bands work? I assume they are disposable? I could leave him in the bathroom all day but am worried about his tearing up the peepad as well as going crazy when the maid shows up. Also, what are in your doggy travel kits? Thanks in advance. |
Why don't you leave him home with a trusted family member or friend? He'll be happier and more comfortable in familiar surroundings and you can enjoy your vacation without feeling guilty about leaving him alone in the hotel room all day. |
I think you should definitely take him!!! I applaud you for wanting to. I always think our furbabies, just like our human babies are better off "with us" than with others caring for them. I would think a pet friendly hotel would help a lot. They probably have a sigh for the door so that housekeeping knows a pet is in the room, etc. I think putting him in the bathroom when you leave without him is a great idea. When you are sight seeing, you can probably take him with you and if you have a carrier where he is incognito there are very few places you couldn't take him in Vegas. The hotel can probably tell you which establishments to stay away from that aren't quite so pet friendly! Let us know how your experience turns out! |
