Liver Shunt....Need Help I am not sure what happened I had posted this yesterday and it is no where to be found. I have a friend that just found out her Schnauzer has a Liver Shunt, it is on the inside of the liver, I am not real clear on all the details. I have been sharing information & websites that I have found here on YT, so that she can educate herself. She is very grateful. She said that she now is better able to communicate and understand what the vet is telling her. She asked me to ask those of you that have a LS furbaby what types of homemade food are you feeding. Thank you for your help |
Here's a link to the Hill's prescription diet for liver problems: http://www.hillspet.com/zSkin_2/prod...=1127858590089 Here's a link to a homemade diet: http://www.vet.utk.edu/clinical/sacs...Liver_diet.pdf Here's a link to someone's experience using the Hills diet: http://www.webhometown.com/mr/liver_diet.html The main object is to lower the protein level and have high quality fats with added lactulose. Also it is best to feed small frequent meals throughout the day so as to not overload the liver. Give our best wishes to your friend. |
Tell her to join this group: http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/L...d_MVD_Support/ They have alot of information to share and a ton of info in the group files, alot of people there feed homemade diets |
I'm sorry to hear about her baby! Cali has a mild MVD and I keep her on a low protein diet. She eats chicken that is 17 % protein because she won't eat anything else. Alos tell your friend to watch the protein content in treats. Some of the bones I have looked at for Cali have 60 % protein in them. |
Thank you so much, I can not begin to tell you how much she has appreciated the info. I am just coping & pasting it in e-mails to her, so that it is exact. |
