Puppy jump/climb puppy gate?
 

Hi, does anyone know a better way to train puppy to be left alone at home for about 2-3 hours? I am usually at home, only once every few days I have to go out and puppy hates to be left alone. I tried leaving him for a couple of minutes. At first it works and then a few more times, it doesn't work. Even if my hubby is at home with him and I am out, he whines and for 20 minutes that is! So, when we went out today, I used puppy gates so that he has a run of the kitchen and I left his crate there as well just in case he wants to sleep. When I came home, he is out of the area! I don't know how he did it and I really don't know how to train him so that he won't have anxiety problem when we go out. I leave kong toy with treats for him but he will only get to it when I am home and not when I am out *sigh*

when I go out, I worried about him so much that I quicky do whatever I need to do and rush home.

If I bring him out, leave him in a crate in the car, I am sure he will whine and cry. It breaks my heart and not everywhere I can bring him along.

Does anyone else have the same problem leaving their puppy or am I the only one..I feel weird coz if my friends sees it, they will say I am over worried.

My suggestion is to crate him while you are out. Sure, he will whine, but over time it will stop.. That way you know he is safe and cannot hurt himself or your house while you are out. Puppies need to develop some independence too. I don't think its healthy for them to ALWAYS be with you. I'm sure others will beat me up about that comment but thats just my opinion.

I also think it's good for them to be with other people or alone sometimes... The kids I babysit for take Pepper for a walk if I bring him to work, I don't mind, it's good he knows other people are there to do fun stuff with him. Or that I know when I leave him at the house he's going to be fine as well, maybe a little bored but he knows hw to entertain himself with his own toys, I encourage it.

If its only 2-3 hours I'd crate her too.

I have a climber too, and when I leave....I have to crate her.

I'm looking for something to put in the doorway of my kitchen thats solid (harder to climb), but so far, nothing that looks decent. Right now, using a piece of plywood to keep her in the kitchen.

I've heard several here say they have 2 baby gates, one on top of the other one for their yorkies.

I also agree with crating him. One of my dogs climbs everything. The only gate I have found that she can't get over is an extra tall, metal gate with bars. I'll see if I can find a link for the one I have. (Plus... it's the only gate my 2yr. old can't get over!)

that gate is really tall and sturdy! i have a friend who has a yorkie and he crates them using the same gate i am using now and he never had problems hence i thought its okay but it doesn't seem so!

I crate mine when I leave the house..they make a loud fuss but as soon as I am gone they stop lol...just like children. I know that they stop because I have come back home to check if I hear them or not and 100 percent of the time its quiet lol..

It's 36" high. Plus, it's self closing.

You are creating his "Seperation Anxiety", all of our Babies whine and cry that's how they talk to us and tell us their needs. Artie can climb up and over my gates, and he had a "Traumatic" experience being "Crated" for shipment so he refuses to be crated for any reason. But I have trained him to behave
while I am away for up to 10 hours or more without any problems!
As well as Abigail, but since we had a Litter of 3, I crate her with them as well. Beleive me it is the best thing for them, it gives them a sense of security and independence and their own privacy and space! But I would never crate them for long periods of time, I spend alot of time with all of them as a Group/Family and as individuals too. So they still get my un-divided attention. Afterall you do want a well adjusted, mature, independent, calm
Yorkie? I try to walk/exercise them and tire them out before I crate them, that helps alot! Good Luck:confused:

Kona is a gate jumper/climber. We eventually bought a second baby gate so we could put it on top. That kept her in the area. Now, I bought an expen and Kona hasn't climed that at all.

When Dezi was a baby, she would also climb the gates. I bought the same gate from Target and she was not able to climb that one.

Roxi climbs an jumps everything!!!! We started with a 24" fence in the back yard and she would jump it and leave her little friends. Then we switched to a 48 in fence and she climbed that too. Luckly we live in a town of only 400 people and the next town is 7 miles away.

We use baby gates for our kitchen also; however, I have resorted to stack three up in the door way.
