Owners of Yorkies 4 LBS & under I was just wondering if we are spending more to purchase our smaller yorkies than the others. So if you have a yorkie that is 4# or less, could you tell me what you paid?:) |
My male is 2.5 lb and I got him in a trade. but they were asking $700. Which I feel is really cheap. Most of the time one this small is priced a lot higher. Part of the reason for pricing the little ones higher is bc you have a greater risks when dealing with the smaller dogs. We just had a litter of puppies and I know I was way more worried about them since they are so small than I would have been if they were bigger dogs. |
I am not sure if you saw the poll that was done on this, but here is the link. I do not remember if it was weight specific. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...&highlight=pay |
I won't share how much I paid but I will say that I would have paid the same thing for my 3 lb girl as I would have a 6-7 lb yorkie girl from my breeder. She breeds for show and the 3 lber is pet quality. So the price I paid was the pet price. I think where you see the biggest problem is in those who are breeding for money. They see a gold mine in the tinies... |

I do not sell smaller ones for higher prices, they are the same price as any pet price. In fact, I sold a small male that stayed smaller than I thought he would. He also ended up with a testicle that didn't descend. They went to the Vet I go to and I paid $100 on their bill when he was neutered as neutering a male with an undescended testicle is more costly and with his smaller size, I wanted him on IV for safety. |
breeders do sell these tinys for alot more $$$$ and often they aren't even very pretty, and look like the standard has been forgotten, they have health issues and often are bred too closely (for size) and in my opinion have mental issues. i own 4 yorkies, 2 are tiny and 2 are standard. my oldest one (9yrs) is bigger and has never (knock on wood) had any health issues i have a 3lb that has has seizures (from his sugar dropping) has been stepped on i think these so called lover's of the breed that are selfishly breeding these babies for $$$$ and not standard should be ashamed!!!!. i traded a car yes a car for my 3lb male (before i got smart) i paid $1000 for my 4lb female and $600 for my bigger girl and i paid $500 for my bigger male i wouldn't trade anything for any of them now but i think i got alot more for my money purchasing my bigger yorks |
Tinies do cost more but that's because there aren't as many of them and they tend to need more care. Mine was $1500 plus $180 to fly her. I almost bought another tiny for $2200 that was guaranteed to stay under 2.5 pounds but I think it's nice just to have one little girl to take everywhere with me. I couldn't do that with 2. Honestly, I think it's worth whatever you can afford to get what you want. A pet that lives 15 years or so is definately worth that much to me. People pay ungodly amounts for horses and no one bats an eye about that. I don't want a pet I can ride, I want one that can go places with me and that's exactly what I have. ;) |
