How frightened are your babies of THUNDER? Last night we had a very loud thunder & lightning storm by us which had Google very frightened. He jumped up on the sofa to be with my daughter while my husband went outside for a minute to check the storm drains (I was at work, otherwise trust me he'd be clinging to me). Apparently at that point there was a loud *CRACK* of thunder, and Google yelped and peed all over the sofa--simply lost control of his little bladder from fright! My husband came back in, cleaned up and tried to calm him, but Google cried if hubby wasn't physically HOLDING him. When he went to bed shortly after, he had to let Google come to bed with him. Has your pups ever been that frightened of thunder & lightning? |
None of mine are frightened by storms or thunder. They don't even seem to notice the difference. In fact, I am more nervous about storms and thunder then they are!!:p I did have a golden though that was scared of storms and thunder and would always try to hide when one was going on. |
Robb was frightened but we tried to ignore him and not pamper him that helped a lot he would just put himself in his bed. We used to have a golden labrador who loved fireworks and would bark to join us in the garden. |
Louie is afraid of thunder. He paces all around or goes and hides under a bed.:( |
Morgan isn't bothered by thunder or lightening. I don't think she was even aware it was storming outside last night. However she did jolt up when that loud crack of thunder/lightening came. I bet you that one hit the ground. scared the $%&! out of me. LOL Morgan just jumped up and looked around like 'what was that'? then two seconds later she forgot about it. |
Eddie is frightened of thunder and fireworks. I've recently heard that you shouldn't baby them when they show fear. That rewards them for being afraid. As tough as it is, the recommended response is to ignore them and the thunder. I'd be interested in what others YTers think of that. |
Mine have no reactions at all . |
Diamond is usually fine unless the thunder is REALLY loud and she just whimpers a lot :( I don't think she notices it that much in my opinion. My sister has a golden mix and she gets in this depressed/sad/upset mood everytime there is a storm, it's horrible!!!! Her eyes get all bloodshot too! |
Gizmo goes insane during storms, or even rain for that matter. He paces back and forth pants to the point of drooling all over himself like he's having a little mini stroke kind of. Vet said we shouldn't put him thru this and gave me some pills to break in half and give him when it is the worst. They calm him to a low shivver and will let you hold him. Some would say the meds are bad, but as someone who just got out of ICU for 3 days with shortness of breath and chest pains from pure stress..I say if it helps, bring them on. |
Sissy has been startled by thunder before. Sometimes she is, sometimes she isn't and the loudness of the thunder doesn't seem to be a deciding factor. She definitely seems to have more of a reaction to it if she is in an area by herself, rather than if we are all together. |
Lady is completely unfazed by thunder on the other hand my cat Jager is a big scaredy cat...I had read somewhere that if you baby them they know something is wrong, and it makes their fear worse. |
My 1st Yorkie(Toby) would let me know about 30 minutes ahead of time it was coming my Riley it did not bother at all. |
Chachi and Jewels arent afraid of thunder and lightening.. I can take them out on My porch during a storm and they are fine. They arent afraid of fireworks either. I have taken them with me to see the fireworks shows |
We've had two bad storms the past two mornings around 5 am - Oscar just shakes the entire time, but he has been a very nervous dog from the get go. Ruthie was startled by a couple loud bangs, but she just curls up and goes to sleep. She's so much tougher than Oscar ;) |
Just as with kids, we never showed any frightening feelings towards storms. I personallly love storms and the electricity in the air. None of my dogs or son are afraid of the thunder or lightening.:) |
