Beware/Mushrooms Hi All, Just wanted to tell all of you to please be aware of mushrooms growing all over this time of year. Some are poisonous to our furbabies. Check your yards before letting your pet outside to romp and those who leash walk check the area's that your pets are walking in. A friend told me this morning about her friend who's 20lb schnauser has been sick for days at the vet. They could not find out what was wrong. Thought poison! The owner found wild mushrooms growing in her back yard. Took one in to be tested and sure enough is was poison. Pup will be fine but was so sick. Your little ones weigh less than that so it could be life threatening. Beware! If you do see one step on it and crush it into the ground. Have a great day. Carol |
 This is not great news....We have mushrooms ALL over our backyard...and its the only place I can let the girls out...I noticed acouple of them last week and had the hubby dig them out but when I was out there yesterday they have taken over the back yard...big brown ones...Anyone know if there is something you can put on your lawns to get rid of them...although I have over an acre to take care of.....without poisoning the girls? I really can't believe how many I have...last year we didn't have any...whats up? |

Good thread, Archie! We didn't have a lot of them this summer because of dry conditions, but I try very hard to watch for them and get them disposed of before Maddie decides to check them out. I just view any mushroom as poisoness, since I don't know for sure and get it out of whereever it is. I hope your friends dog is better and fully recovered soon! |
Kylie has gotten into mushrooms before. By the time I realized what they were she was chomping away. Thankfully nothing bad happened but she did have an upset stomach for a few hours until it passed. Thanks for the thread, I will definitely be looking for these before I let the girls out to play! |

This is a great thread! We bought our house in Jan. of this year. So I was not familiar with our neighbors. I saw one of our neighbors dog laying on the ground looking like it was having a seizure. I went running to our neighbor to let them know. He told me that when Toby was a just a baby he ate a mushroom and it affected his nervous system and now this is the way he is. It is so sad to watch him. Before I saw the seizure I thought he had a really bad case of arthritis(sp). But this is what eating a mushroom in their yard did to him. He is not in physical pain. Toby is a springer spaniel. |
