molly has very fine hair We got our yorkie when she was 12 weeks old. She didn't really look like the other yorkie puppy I saw online. They were fluffy and full. The breeder said it was because she is a silky coat. She is now 5 months old and her hair hasn't grown very much.We love her just the same but she just doesn't much look like a yorkie. Does anyone else have this problem. |

I do have a photo but I don't know how to post it. I know she is a yorkie, she is registered akc. She just doesn't look like most that I have seen. I have browsed around a little on this sight and have seen a few that do favor her. She is cute as a bug and sweet as can be. I wouldn't trade her for a million bucks. I just wondered if their were anymore like her and how they turned out as adults. |
I have tried unsucessfully to upload a picture of Molly three times. I am not very computer savy. Thank you for your thoughts. I never thought of comparing their hair to humans. I am glad to know she won't tangle because she hates the sight of the comb even when she doesn't have tangles. |

This is a current pic....five months old? I'm no expert, but she looks like she could be a red-leg yorkie, to me. Is her coat soft and silky to the touch, or wirey? Hopefully someone will happen on this thread that can address the issue better than I, but if not, do a search on it....there was a recent discussion. She's a CUTIE, by the way! Welcome! :) |
Connie, Sadie's hair was just like that...Like I said she has a thinner silky coat, very easy to take care of. |
Connie, your baby is precious.... I myself have the complete opposite of the spectrum of yorkies... Hope has fine silky hair, is 3 1/2 lbs... Tootie is HUGE 16 lbs and has cottony, fluffy hair. They are both registered but are completely opposite. I love them both and it is actually fun to have such different babies. Good luck with her! d |
Thanks everybody for your thoughts. You all have cutie pies. Molly's hair is silky and soft. Not wiry at all. I am not sure about the red leg thing. Her papers say black and gold. She is 12 weeks in that photo. Thanks Jeanie for your help. Connie K:aimeeyork |
Thick coat or not................she is beautiful! |
molly Jeanie K, Thanks for your help. I still can't upload. The site keeps saying upload failure. I have no idea why. |
She is really adorable! |
I also have 2 yorkies. totally different too. Kizzys hair is soft silky and so easy to brush but its growing slowly and it seems thin to me. she weighed 9.8lbs at the vet Friday she is 8 months old. On the other hand, maggie is 4 months old, weighed 3.3 lbs friday at the vet also. Her hair seemed more cottony at first. Now its soft yet still not silky. it use to mat up but lately she rarely has a mat. Her hair is growing much faster than kizzys. So maybe the silk hair on some just grow slower than some or maybe it grows slower than the cottony. I only know their totally different yet they both have their ways that you cant describe that makes one as lovable as the other, big or little. I am beginning to wonder if kizzys hair will ever be near the floor or get thicker. But either way, shes a keeper. But I do hope her hair does get longer and thicker. it seems to have started growing a little more than it did for a while, still thin looking tho to me. your puppy looks fine to me. As you can see on these threads most all of them look different. |
she's really cute. Teddy looks bald at the top of his head but I was told he will be silky coat cause his hair is really fine. |
molly Well guys it is great to know that she doesn't has a hair growth problem. All of your fine haired babys are cute. I don't really care about her hair though. She is the sweetest most loving little bug you could ever meet. I had a trainer come today to help me with a few things and she said that Molly was one of the best behaved yorkies she had ever meet. The little bugger was just like my kids they always behave in public or when you have company. But when your alone all bets are off. Hee Hee. ConnieK;) |
1 Attachment(s) Yorkies that start out with thin coats are usually the ones that end up with the standard silky Yorkie coat. Ones with the really thick coats usually end up with cottony coats. When I first got Titan, at 6 mo, his hair was bad. He had some longer hairs, but most were shorter hairs. I trimmed the longer ones off. Now he just turned a year old and his coat is pretty nice. Very silky and finally getting longer. I've been told that you want your Yorkie hair to feel similar to people hair. Here is a pic of titan now. |
