How to care for my yorkie after his surgury? My yorkie Brinkly is being neutered right now @ the vet's office. What have been your experiences with the recovery after neutering? Do they sleep a lot or are they in pain? Do they want to eat after the surgury? Brinkly is my first yorkie and my first dog besides the family dog I grew up with so I'm new to this, any other advice that you have or recommendations would be appreciated so much. It was so hard handing him over this morning, but probably what was hardest was making sure he didn't eat before the surgury. He LOVES to eat, I think more than most dogs, so that was pure torture for him. Thanks for the help. I also want to thank everyone for all the advice on choosing a good vet, especially the info. about the anesthia. I found a vet that uses the isoflourine, so hopefully everything will go well. ~Beth |
Can't help, I have 2 girls. But I'm sure he will sleep the rest of the day. And have some discomfort. The vet should give you pain meds for it. |
When I got my boy neutered he was in pain like he slept with his bottom in the air. But then again hes a real cry baby. My vet told me to give him some pain meds but I forgot the name they sell it at any drug store just ask your vet. Good Luck! |
Don't worry he will be just fine. You have to wait a few hours after surgery before you feed him. He will probably sleep for like 5 hours then wake up and be starving. You can give him some broiled chicken breast with white rice, for his tummy. The anesthesia will be affecting his tummy, so don't be surprised if he has bad diarrhea and funky smelling too. That's the medicine leaving his body. So giving him something bland like chicken and rice is good for his tummy. Getting him a onesie would be good to keep him from licking his stitches in the upcoming days. Make sure he's getting loads of fluids too. He will be back to his normal energetic self by tomorrow. Don't worry he will be just fine. Just give him loads of kisses and let him sleep on your lap, and he will be in heaven :D |
Nathan have been neutered and he reacted as nothing happened to him . |
Well, when I had Louie neutered they did laser surgery so there were no stiches. He was very groggy when I picked him up and just really slept most of the day. I had a very small crate that he slept in for the first few hrs (i put it up on the couch next to me so he knew I was near) I just really wanted to be near him lol. He probobly just took a few sips of water here and there that first day. He was pretty sore and slow for a few days after, but he did have pain meds so that helped with his discomfort. Then before we knew it he was back to his ol' self again. I know how hard it is to hand them over :( Im sure he will be just fine, try not to worry too too much. Good luck hun, my prayers are with you and your baby. Let us know how it all works out.:hands: :hands: :hands: :hands: :hands: :hands: :hands: :hands: :hands: |

Sounds like you've gotten lots of advice. I just wanted to send Brinkly get well wishes from Maddie and I!!! Let us know how he's doing! |
Brinkly is doing GREAT!! I just wanted to thank everyone for the help and thoughts and prayers for Brinkly. Everything went smoothly and he was back to normal in 24 hours. It was so funny when he got home. He was so sleepy but he didn't want to miss anything so he would literally fall asleep standing up! It was so cute! He had to have 5 teeth pulled, which is more than I expected. He was also micro-chipped. Thank you all so much for sharing your experiences with me. It was so hard giving him to the nurses, but I really believe I chose the best place for him to have it done. I took him in around 8:00 and they called to me tell me they were finished w/ him around 12:30 and I could pick him up. I had no idea they would be finished w/ him that soon! When I got there the doctor met w/ me and answered every question. So far this vet is the nicest I've been to so far but I've only had experiences with 2 others besides him. The great thing was I spent in all 236.60. An interesting side note is that I did have him scheduled with another doctor for that day, but a week before the vet had a fire that burned down either part or the whole building and shut them down for the time being. It was really sad b/c the fire was in the kennel part of the building and killed like 8 or 9 dogs and cats. So I just stumbled upon this vet (His name is Dr. Drake for those that live in Alabama and need a good vet) when I was looking through the phone book to find another vet. Thanks again for all the help! Sorry for the long winded post!=) ~Beth |
