Does your Yorkie skipp?
 

Alright, so I've been noticing Melvin skipps like a fruity little thing sometimes. He will be on a mission to whatever it may be and raise one of his rear legs and skipp. I've talked to the vet about a possible floating knee, but we ruled it out. My question is, does anyone else's Yorkie do this? He's pretty consistent and doesn't favor a leg, maybe he's a little "special", I don't know. Is this normal?

When my yorkie runs she looks like a bunny rabbit first her 2 front then her 2 back. When she walks she walks normally..maybe thats just her style?

My yorkie poodle mix used to do that. I thought it was a poodle thing.

One of mine does this little skip thing -- our vet says its a loose knee.

ruthie does this sometimes when she's running and it's her kneecap slipping that causes it....

yeap mine does too and they are sooooo funny, they both look like lambs jumping about..i wonder why they do it........

I don't know about "skipping", but Stedman does look like a little bunny rabbit when he jumps and runs :p

Funny you said that ....You aren't nuts thinking that - Chanel Skips when she's happy.....and I LOVE it. When I take her out - (especially when she went shopping on her birthday) she was SO Happy she was skipping along side of me looking Up at me every 2 seconds with her HUGE happy face.....

I swear she was saying....."WOW MOM - I'm shopping !! Look at ME !":p People actually stopped to watch her ...she was just like a little girl...too cute.

Alright so the verdict is, its a Yorkie trait and Melvin is a little "special", we knew this all along, nice to know he's not the only one. It does look at little silly, but when he skipps its cute because, you can tell he's excited to do whatever he is about to do. He smiles too, its the funniest thing! Shane and I can pick him up and show our teeth and he will too! Marilynn just learned how, I think he taught her. That is one thing I love about my babies, they grin when we grin! Its like our own special family thing, makes me feel that much more connected to my kids!

Bruce always appears to be prancing, which I guess some may call a skip, but I definetly would call it more of a prance. Yes, there have been a number of people who think it is a bit fruity but personally I love it. I remember actually praying his little gait would not change with his surgeries (not that I would have really cared if it had)...He also does the bunny thing when running. I just love the way he moves about!!!

Vivi also does a little bunny hop when she runs....It is really cute:)

Miss Mini does a hop like thing but she has LP .in both knees .

That's what Kacee does. She prances. I think it is a yorkie trait, though. They have a very proud way of holding themselves with their heads held high. I personally think they look kinda like miniature Clydesdales prancing around.:D

I firmly believe it is a little dog thing, to prance. They know they are soooooo damn cute and they play it for all it's worth. I have had a Toy Poodle, a Yorkie and now a Shih Tzu that prance. They are just as pleased as can be with themselves, 'cause they know they are loved, cute as a button and always get attention-- no matter where they go. Dumb dogs..........they are NOT!
This is one of the reasons I am so upset when I see the abuse that puppy mill dogs used for breeding go through. Those poor animals look so pathetic. Many dogs are used as breeders at puppy mills, but a large majority of them are "little dogs", because they are so much in demand. It just breaks my heart when I see dogs that are supposed to be little loving animals whose sole pleasure is to love and be loved by their owners. Become starved, disease ridden, pathetic animals. Who are used until no longer useful and then killed.
However back to the original question.....the only small dog I have ever had that did not prance--when happy, was a tiny, tiny Chihuahua. Although she was a sweetheart, very smart and lived to be almost 14 years old. She was bred much, much too tiny. She never even reached 3 lbs, her whole life. We loved her dearly and she lived the life of a princess, believe me. But she was like a premie infant that you constantly had to watch. Her health was overall good, but we we still had to watch her like a premie baby. She was prone to upper respiratory and ear infections. So we had to watch every cold draft, etc and could Never take her out, without a sweater/coat from Fall until Spring.
All my small dogs, except 1; haved pranced when they were happy and content. None of them had/has any type of knee displacement.
