Can your Yorkie jump.... Can your Yorkie jump on the furniture without the aid of steps or stairs? Since the day we brought Darla home she would crawl up furniture and within a week she was jumping on and off...now she FLIES around the house and can rush up and down the stairs 3 at a time...she is part bird I think lol.. Reece on the other hand has been with us for 5 weeks and although he puts alot of effort into it...he cant jump on anything yet and has just mastered the steps outside. He bounces and bounces and just cant grasp the idea of pushing himself forward to jump up. He is MUCH bigger than Darla was at this age but cant find his 'wings' yet lol... So what about your babies?? Dawn |
Morning Dawn! Gage actually "flys" when he jumps...LOL! I swear he has springs in his hind legs that just propel him "up and away"!! If he really put a lot of thought and concentration into it, I believe he could jump over the child gate I have between my kitchen and living room! Gabby, on the other hand, can't jump like she used to. She will be 10 years old in February and is showing signs of arthritis in her hips:( We are having a ramp made for her to help aid in getting her up on the sofa. Suzi |
My girls could get just about anywhere at a very young age. Cody, my boy, has just mastered jumping up on the couch a few weeks ago and he just turned 8 months old. He has always been less "hyper" than the girls and prefers to just be picked up instead of having to do it himself. Lazy boy! lol |
chloe amazes me on how high she can jump, shes so good on figuring out how to do things. The first day we brought her home she figured out in 5 minutes how to get down the steps, and within an hour she mastered how to jump on the couch. What amases me most is that she can jump on my moms bed which is pretty close to three ft high. |
Well Good Morning Suzi!! I hear ya on the springs in the legs...I am POSITIVE Darla has em'!! Reece on the other hand...doesnt lol... Dawn |

Jumping Oh my God YES lol. Stedman started climbing up on the couch, literally, a few days after we first brought him home  He will fly over from the couch, to the ottoman, and fly up on the over stuffed chair and then prance over to the very back of the over stuffed chair and just perch himself up there and stare out the window. He likes to watch the cars drive by. We call him our little acrobat :) And he ALMOST has jumping up on our bed mastered, but he's JUST A HAIR off! Hubby's like omg, if he could just get a LITTLE more air, he'd have it. lol. I think we're going to get him the 3-step doggie steps for the bed, but he can jump up on everything else ;) |
I've told Shana this before. Kacee is a wonder to watch when she jumps sometimes. It almost looks like she's floating downward when she's landing. I've never seen anything like it in my life!:D |
Bengi can jump into the couch, chairs, my bed. He even climbs the baby gate, so my hubby had to make a taller gate that's like 3 feet tall! He first made one that was like 2 1/2 feet but he would still climb it! |
Lady can get on all the furnature no problem...shes always jumping around....she makes me nervous, I'm always afraid all that jumping will one day hurt her back legs |
All of mine jump up and down off everything except my bed. It is really high so they have steps to get on it. |
My pup does that when shes begging for food she goes up and down up and down lol its quite entertaining:thumbup: |
I think James is 1/2 bird too!!! He jumps right out of the playpen:eek: |

I've only had Lucy for a week and a half but jumping up is hard. She is fearless in jumping down. |
I'm getting a kick out of reading all of these posts!:D Many years ago, when Muffin was still a puppy, I walked into the family room and she was sitting on the top of th back of the recliner! Scared me to death! When she was excited, I swear she would jump from the back of the couch in the living room and land halfway out in the living room.:D I was always scared to death she'd break something. Her legs weren't long. She had short legs. |
The only time Ferdinand will jump off the couch is when he has to go potty really bad (and hasn't whined to get us to let him out). Other than that, you can't even lure him off with a treat! |
Jake has just started jumping off the couch and can get up on the couch, but he's mostly climbing up. He can't get on the bed by himself. I try to discourage him jumping right now because I'm afraid he'll hurt himself since he's so tiny. |

Can they jump?? Yes!!!!! Trixie is a big jumper. She loves jumping and can jump pretty high. You've all seen those jack russell terriers and how they jump, right?? Well that is exactly what Trixie is like. She has a true terrior, oops I mean terrier spirit. Scampers is a semi jumper, he can get on the couch and other things pretty easily. He can't make it on to my bet though. He likes to fly off the couch though!! He will leap with his legs stretching out and I think he really believes he is flying. He always jump up on the couch, gets to the highest point and then leaps off of it with his legs stretching out, he looks like a flying squirrel!!!:p I have to keep a close eye on him because I don't want him to hurt himself. Getting little stairs for him would be pointless. He jumps on the couch so he would not use the stairs to get on the couch. And he has a big fear of going down stairs, he can't seem to do it, he tumbles each time he tries.:( That is why I have to keep the stairs gated because he can go upstairs but not down them and he would be stuck up there waiting for me to come get him. Destiny is a whole different story. She is a huge climber/jumper. She is always climbing and jumping on things. She can even make the jump on to my bed which is really high and only Trixie and her can make the jump. She even jumped from my love seat to the couch which is a long jump and I coulden't believe she did it and with such an ease, none of my others have ever made that jump, not even Trixie. She just loves jumping and climbing, she is my little mountain goat.:) She always has to be really high up, when on the couch she has to be on the highest point and it is the same with everything else she climbs on. Have you ever seen those mountain goats climging up on the rocks?? That is exactly what Destiny look like anid does all the time. She is little and I get worried because she is small but no matter how hard I try to stop her, she still does it. Trixie and Destiny are both big jumpers but I would have to say that Destiny wins because Trixie is twice Destiny's size and Destiny can make the same jumps as Trixie even though she is half of Trixie's size. |

Wow looks like ALL of our pups have invisible wings!!! I loooooooved reading all of your stories!! Dawn |
Ok, everyone has pups with wings...except me. Last Wed. Riley slides off the arm of my sofa (onto carpet floor) & dislocated her knee cap (luxating patella). She had knee surgery that same day. Now when she's on the sofa she's strictly on my lap. |
oh ouch I am so sorry about that! :( My husband and I say that Daisy has "buns of steel" from all the flying and jumping she does. She is forever giving me a heart attack with all of her flying around the house and yard. She is without fear!:yelrotflm |
Joey can actually jump up on the kitchen counters! Little Devil. But, then, he's a big Yorkie - 12 lbs. |
Cooper can jump from anywhere he wants. Even climbs gates as well. Just worry about him sometimes that he is going to get hurt. |
Kylie had a very hard time and after several attempts finally learned. She had this habit of jumping to early even at a running start! :D Chloe on the other hand runs around jumping all over the place. Gives me a heartattack but to stop her would be a miracle! :) |
My lil man has been able to jump for like forever! Ever since we brought him home he has been able to jump around like a kangaroo!!! And he just now starting to jump from our couch over the baby gate...Mind you the babygate is about 5 foot from the couch...Like you guys said they have invisible wings |
