Joy dishwashing liquid? Hello Does Joy Dishwashing liquid happen to work for killing fleas. My 11 week old puppy who weighs 2 lbs has fleas. I'm a little leary of the normal vet recommendations (k9advantix and the other) and would like to try things the natural way first. Anything would be helpful as she is scratching herself like crazy at night and thus keeping me awake all night as she lays next to me. Thanks in advance. Laurie :aimeeyork |
Dawn dish soap I have heard about the original dawn and also dove bar soap. regular scent. |
Oh wow Dove works too? |
I got some 4 in 1 Shampoo & Conditioner Concentrate It kills fleas and tick all natural. Here is the site I got if from http://www.highcascadeemus.com/ smells really good to. |
Vet I overheard my Vet. receptionist telling someone on the phone about Baby shampoo. When she got off the phone I questioned her. She said Johnsons Baby shampoo is good for puppies and kitten under 12 weeks old as it does kill fleas. Tauni |
I've always heard that Palmolive dish soap works. Another thing is that Revolution is supposed to have one for puppies under 12 weeks. Last, but not least, spray a towel with Frontline, then wrap the baby in it for a minute. The dead fleas will come off with the towel. You can also wash them with a washcloth dipped in 1/2 listerine, and 1/2 water. Leave damp for a few minutes, then dry with a cloth. All of this for those darned fleas!:D |
JMO - I would not use dishwashing liquid on an animal. It dries out our hands, so it would have to dry out their skin. Then you will have a scratcher with other issues! |
Frontline is completely safe for puppies 8 weeks and older. I started using it on Hootie when she was 9 weeks old because the fleas were so bad here. So, don't be worried about using it on your 11 week old. I'm sure it'll be fine. |
wow.... Thats Amazing...i Didnt Know That...hopefully Mine Never Gets Fleas But If It Does I Will Remember This Thread...thanks ;) :) |
Hello, My dog had fleas also and I went online to check natural remedies to treat it and they recommend boiling lemon and spraying or washing your dog with it. They also recommend using Dawn original liquid detergent. If you have carpet, they say you can sprinkle borax on it, cut up a flea collar to put inside the vacuum bag before vacuuming it up. The flea collar should kill any fleas that did not die from the borax. |

Use a MILD dog shampoo, and let it sit on her skin for at least 5 minutes, slather it on thick, pick the dead ones off as you see them. This typically suffocates them and kills them. THEN you have the bigger problem, you probably have them all over your house, and need to treat that, and she will need something to prevent her from getting them again. I like Frontline SPRAY (not topspot) if she is over 2 lbs. Quote:

I've used a flea comb on Adonis, and when I get a flea, I throw him in a cup that has water and Dawn dishwashing soap in it. It kills them fast! I've never tried another dish soap with this method, cause I keep Dawn here for dishes. But you have to be fast and throw them in the cup before they hop off the comb! They can be fast, but when they get in the comb, I think it confuses them for a few seconds. Just long enough for me to get them in the cup of soapy detergent! |
I got cap star pills, but lucky I have not had any prombles with fleas. |
Not sure where I got this from but I had it saved. Fleas & Ticks Fresh garlic in small quantities can help repel fleas by making the animal taste unpleasant to fleas. Grate a small amount of fresh, raw garlic into your pet's food at mealtime, about one-half to 3 chambers of the clove (chamber, not a whole clove) depending on the animal's size. One vet recommends one crushed clove of garlic (not a whole bulb: a clove is just one chamber) per every 30 pounds. Some holistic health practitioners recommend heating the garlic for easier digestion, and to give them garlic twice per week. * When bathing your pet, you can use deluted apple cider vinegar to rinse his or her fur. Fleas don't like the smell or taste. * Lavender, peppermint and geranium essential oils also repel mosquitoes. Lavender, lemongrass and geranium repel ticks. And lavender, lemongrass, peppermint and citronella repel fleas. Dab oils between the dog's shoulder blades. As you can see, lavender (which also repels flies) is particularly versatile. Other effective natural repellents include lemon, cedar, eucalyptus, myrrh, neem and rosewood Put a drop of lemon oil or rosemary oil or(See Above List) on the dog's collar. A safe, easy homemade flea & mosquito repellent: cut 6 lemons in half or smaller, boil in a quart of water, steep a few hours, then strain the solution into a spray bottle. Spray your pet's fur, taking care not to spray near the eyes. Don't spray anything in a dog's face: apply spray to your hand and then rub it on the fur. |
