I need some info on roachback please I read the post about roachback. I feel my Sadie Mae may have this. I searched the internet for information and cannot find any. Could somebody here please help me? I am a little concerned about this. Sadie is 2 1/2 yrs old and I really didn't notice this(I didn't really know what was) until I got my new furbaby. Lillie has a very straight back where as Sadie doesn't. Is this something I need to be concerned about? She runs, jumps, plays just fine. Should I try to stop her from jumping? Thank you in advance for any help you can offer me. |
I thought Jewels had this when she was a baby. It only affects their appearance. It doesnt affect their health or thier ability to do things. They can get arthritis as they get older. Hope this helps |
My neighbor has a 7-year-old, 5 pound Yorkie that definitely has a roach back. People notice and comment on the curvature of his back. It isn't noticeable all the time - only occasionally. However -- she didn't know this because she had never heard of such a thing - and her little dog is just a pet - and she isn't in to Yorkie Yorkie Yorkie stuff. I can tell you that her little dog (still at 7) is a rough, tough, playing, jumping little dog. He runs up to her in the yard and jumps all the way up to her arms so that she can catch him and hold him. And - she says he drives her crazy running around the house and playing all the time. He has more energy than anything she has ever seen. She's wishes he just sit for a while once in a while. It certainly hasn't held him back - and I know it has never been a concern, and he has never had any special care ---he doesn't need it. So - other than his appearance (and this often isn't even very noticeable), I doubt you need to worry about anything. Good luck -- Carol Jean |
thank you so much for the info. Although I have had many many dogs in my life this is the first yorkie I have owned. (I now have 2) I noticed that Sadies back wasn't completely straight when she was an older puppy but, never really gave it much thought...like I said she is very active. It was only when I came to yorkie talk and roachback was brought up that I thought this may be what she has. Have you ever had or known of a yorkie that had this and had problems when they were older? I hate to think that someday she could be in pain.. |
