How far of a walk is TOO far? I started walking Ferdinand every night (for his health and mine!) but don't know how far is too far. He's 17 weeks... I want to give him a good exercise (& socialization with all the other hundreds of dogs in our neighborhood), but don't want to push him too far. Is 30 minutes good?? |
30 minutes is fine. |
When he sits or lays down and refuses to move - then you've gone too far!! Seriously, I go more by distance and how much Sissy starts to pant than by time. Other factors such as the temperature affect how long we're out for too. When it starts getting colder, she will shiver pretty quickly too. So, we may only make it to the end of the block! As long as you are getting lots of indoor playtime in - I wouldn't worry about the length of time. |
We always know when they've had enough when they plop down wherever, like random yards along the way. They just get so excited to go, go, go, they use all their little batteries at once! They both tend to wear themselves out pretty quick in the begining. And we usually walk them for 20-30 minutes. |
walking i walk Tito as far as he'll go on a constant route. Every week, I extend the length of the walk a little. Just start out with a specific distance that he can obviously do, then keep increasing the distance. |
My DAISY just flops.. Sissy looks up at me with those big dark eyes. Than I carry them for a while. But now I have a pet stroller hopefully it will help with the winter walks keep them warmer. |
Gracie is 15 weeks tomorrow. Her limit is about 30 minutes, less if it is hot outside. Today we did one mile in 30 minutes, and she plopped close to the end of that. It is about 60 degrees here today. She used up most of her juice visiting with everyone that passed us! |
