Cottage cheese??? Does anyone here feed cottage cheese to their Yorkie on a daily basis? |
NO. A quality food should provide the calcium requirements for a non-nursing female. Cottage cheese would be okay in small amounts but not necessary used only as treats..Sombody else might have another opinion... |
Yes, I give Lexi & Max 1 teaspoon every day. They love it! |
I do! I was feeding my soon to be 12 week old female Abigail (this coming Monday) cottage cheese (not lowfat) once a day, cheddar cheese and even calcium supplements. I started when she was 8 weeks old, since my Groomer told me to try the cottage cheese to make her ears stand up. They are officially up as of today, one is still kind of soft and shakey but in a couple of days it should be as stable as the other one? I was told that the calcium in their Diet, went to their bones and teeth first and the ear cartilage was last in line. So I fed her extra calcium. It worked for her? I don't think I will continue with it she seems to be bored with it. :( |
Our vet had us begin to give Magic plain (non flavored) yogurt with each meal....to help with her sensative stomach issues.....both Magic and Sailor have been getting the yogurt with their meals now for a week and they both really like it......we are no longer having to encourage either one to eat...they both are begging for their bowls and do not move until they are finished with their meal.....and this is a big change and defintely makes meal time easier! :) |
... so is the average opinion postive? the breeder who sold mom's fox terrier to us recommmended it but said it was not neccassary...just wondering... |
I occasionally put a little cottage cheese in Sandy and Tia's kongs as a treat. I don't feed it on a regular basis though. They do seem to love it. |
The breader had Bella on cottage cheese mixed with her dog food when she first came home. We have since changed to dry and the Natural Balance Beef Log and the vet had approved |
I mix 1 teaspoon of cottage cheese into Eddies food every morning. He loves it! |
no I do not feed my yorkie cheese becuase I think its a greasy fatty food:) |
Yeap... I'll put just a little bit of parmesan cheese in her food (grated) and she loves it, I even change it sometimes to american cheese... it's just a tiny bit mostly for flavor!! |
Lowfat cottage cheese I just strted giving him cottage cheese a couple days ago. It is lowfat though. Does that make a difference. I gave him some becausse he had an upset tummy and I heard that cottage cheese would help. Is giving him some everyday ok? I feed him 3 times a day, do I give him some with each meal? Either way he loves it.:animal-pa |
I give Lillie 1 tsp of cottage cheese every morning with (baby) oatmeal, mix with a little warm water and a couple small drops oh honey. If I dont she wont eat till 11 and I'm afraid her sugar may get low, so this keeps her eating in the morning. I tried to get her to eat her food in the morning even out of my hand and she refused. |
I give some to Roxi, but that is bc she is nursing. If you do feed it do so in small amounts (like one tsp) and i recommend using lowfat. When comparing equal amounts the low fat has more nutritional value, just like skim milk has more calcium in it than whole milk. |
Experience with.... Hi, the lady that I bought my yorkie over 14 yrs ago.....you remember, she was one of the original "burgandy" yorkie breeders. Anyway, all her puppies were raised on hamburger and cottage cheese until they were 6 months old. And, I have to say this......my yorkie was the most healthy yorkie I have ever seen. And she never had any issues of hypoglycemia, and had a gorgeous silk coat...... Not sure, but I sure would recommend it. :) |
