How will the groomer handle this?
 
Sam, my little 4 month old Yorkie will get his first grooming tomorrow. I have tried and tried and tried to trim his ears and around his eyes but his is extememly squrimmy, moves his head from side to side and tries to block with his front paws.

My husband and I have both said we want to see just how the groomer will handle Sam, I mean, he is so bad I can just see the groomer breaking out a cloth with cholorform to sedate him or putting his head in a vice of some sort, haha - JUST KIDDING.

How do the groomers handle dogs that put up such a resistance?

i dont really know how they handle it, i kinda wonder myself and honesty
i dont think i want to know... i think most pets are afraid of their groomers
thats why they cooperate, im just guessing though... i know when i take lexi,
she scared to death to walk in the place... i know they are not gentle cause ive seen some of them work...not such a nice scene.. i groom lexi myself now
it may be uneven , but i know she is safe, i just have them do her nails,

I wouldn't worry about it. Hobbs was SO extremely bad the first time I took him to the groomers. They called me at work and said it would be later than what they told me for when I could pick him up because they were only able to work on him 5 minutes at a time because he would pitch such a fit. They said that would just work on him for 5 minutes, then give him a little break. They eventually got him done and he looked great and they didn't have to sedate him. I didn't get into any details of how exactly they did it because I probably would have been embarrassed to know how bad he was. :o They are professionals. They have tactics that we've never dreamed of using probably.

That is an excellent point. Your dog knows you and knows he can take advantage of you. If someone new is handling him, he will probably straighten up and behave. :p :p :p

Good point. Codie is excellent at the groomers -- very well behaved and not squirmy at all. Tee Tee use to be a little squirmy but she got use to going on a regular basis (once a month) and is now a perfect little angel. :p

I held my the first time, then my groomer said to go in the back of the shop and she did great with my pup, my pup was just standing there and let the groomer do her thing.The groomer knows what to do with pups my did. Good luck.

Most groomers have special tables with grooming arms that hold the dog in place if they need it

I have a mobil groomer who comes to my house so I can go out and check on him with the dogs anytime I want but I dont - I figure it would be disruptive if the dogs saw me while getting groomed.

My biggier Yorkie, Scooter LOVES, LOVES, LOVES getting groomed. He loves bath time, he loves to be brushed, in fact if I am trying to brush out Cid, Scooter tries to move Cid out of the way with his butt. Scooter also like for me to trim around his eyes and clean his ears. Cid doesnt mind being groomed but he doest love it like Scooter, I just hope I can get Sam to at least not mind it so much.

I cant wait to see how Sam turns out tomorrow, I hope the groomer has some gentle tricks up his sleeve!
