Help Help Help!!!!! Is there anyone up????????? Amber got sprayed by a skunk about an hour 1/2ago! I bathed her in the peroxide, baking soda and dish soap techniuqe. Here is what happend Amber had to go out about 4am. So I let her out and she wound up chasing a skunk. And it got her good. Not realizing what happend I let her inside. My WHOLE house STINKS! I dont know what to do. I have bowls of vinigar throughout my house and a crockpot of lemon juice simmering. THe entire house stinks but the wrost room is my bedroom. When she first came inside she headed right toward her 2 1/2 week old babies. I would not let her by them so she ran into my room and under the bed. Well that is where she did the the majority of her rolling. OMG the smell!!! I bathed Amber in the mixture and 90% of the smell came out. She still stinks a little bit by her face. I bathed her three times in the mixture. I just dont know what to do  I dont know if I should let her by her babies or not. Eventually I will have to they will have to eat. I just dont want them t smell to! Does anyone have any advise for me? Thank You! |

Oh, dear...skunks are the worst. I'm so sorry this happened to you...I have no experience in this...but I found a few links to products you could try..I believe they also sell products for this at the Vet's...but again, I'm no expert. :) http://www.nextag.com/500562094p/zz2...627DF8FCC36AB8 http://www.entirelypets.com/skunbythorco.html The product above says it's non toxic for the pets, safe for use on you, your pets, house, car, etc. :) http://www.furlongspetsupply.com/get..._off_a_dog.htm Maybe you could wash her face with a bit of vanilla extract? I don't know...it might take out the smell...:) It's on the link above as a solution. Hope this helps! ~Marly |
Oh I am so sorry. I think part of it just has to wear off. Hope it's better today. |
I have always heard tomato juice works wonders |
Help Help Help!!!!!!!!!! Several years ago when we were away and my brother-in-law was watching the children and dogs a skunk sprayed our dogs. He called the vet's office and was told to bathe the dogs in tomato juice. He went to the store and bought the juice and bathed them several times. It did help to neutralize the horrible odor but everytime they got wet afterward there was still a lingering odor of skunk. As far as for the area under your bed I have no idea. If the links provided by other readers don't work I would try calling a commercial company like Servicemaster and ask what they recommend. GOOD LUCK! |
Man, I can only imagine the smell! As others have said, I've heard tomato juice works good at neutralizing the smell. As for under your bed, maybe contact a carpet cleaning service and ask for recommendations on removing the odor (or contact a carpet business - one who sells carpets) if the links don't help. Good luck and let us know what you find that works just in case it happens to one of us here. Suzi |
GOOOOOOOOOOD LUCK!!!!!!!! I had a little dog that managed to get sprayed by a skunk at least once every summer. And boy - it is no fun. The last time (it was about 2:00 AM) and I just put her in the bathtub - and bathed her with soap and drained the tub, soaped her up again and drained the tub again - five or six times. It ended up being her face that was the worst also. For two months if I put her face up to my nose, I could still smell skunk. And my house smelled also - for a long time. ****** If she had a collar on - make sure that is off - and outside (not in the house anywhere). I really don't know about the puppies. You're right - they have to eat.... Maybe you can let them eat and then take her away from them for a while. I know one time my dog got skunked - I smelled it all night and it actually made me sick - So sorry! I do know what you're going through -- but at least I didn't have little puppies to deal with - that's an extra problem. Carol Jean |
Plain old tomato juice. |
When my Rott got sprayed by a skunk same thing happend, he got in the house before the smell hit us. He wiped his head all over me and the living room rug. The smell was so bad it woke my hubby up out of a sound sleep. We tried the peroxide mixture, had to do it multiple times and tomato juice. We alos used natures miracle skunk odor stuff. My house still smelled every time it rained for months! But after using all three methods the smell on Justice was just a faint odor when he got wet. |
I'm sorry that happened. It's horrible. As if you weren't already exhausted from caring for babies - now this!:( |
