Personal Yorkie Question!!! Our baby Gizzie is now 10 weeks and after going out the garden (when I'm lucky lol) she never attempts to wash herself after going to toilet!! I really should know if this is normal or not as we had 4 dogs alltogether before - as far as I recal Gypsy Rose has always washed herself afterwards but I'm not sure!! Well told you it was a personal question!! Ana xx |
Hmm, when you mean wash herself do you mean lick herself clean? Or what exactly do you mean? :P |
Well if you do mean licking herself clean, yes/sometimes, my Cookie does lick herself sometimes after she goes peepee. I usually clean her w/ a baby wipe anyways after she goes pee or poo. I have noticed though that Cookie will lick herself in the morning before she is going to take her morning poop so I know to keep an eye on her to make sure she goes on her weewee pad. -RubyC |
Yeah I mean licking herself clean - Gizzie never does, maybe she's too young yet? She will go wee wee then just comes into the house, sure all my other dogs have licked themself clean? Ana xx |
Schatzie doesn't lick herself much either. Only at night right before she goes to sleep, almost like a relaxing grooming moment for her or something. I should get in the habit of wiping her with a baby wipe but seem to forget most of the time. Her rear end hair is cut real short so she usually has no problems keeping clean back there. Now that I think of it Annabelle our schnauzer doesn't lick herself clean either after potting? Are they supposed to? Or have they both got into such a habit of us grooming them they wait for us to do it??? |
LOL! Yeah well we do everything else for them don't we! Must have been coincidence that our four always cleaned themselves then and I've checked since, Gypsy Rose always does - a baby wipe sounds a good idea, I often carry them anyway, great for dirty bottoms aren't they ?!! The subject we discuss on here!! Ana xx |
Seems as if Toto licks everything except her private parts! :) She does lick before going to sleep at night .... our hands, arms, faces ... anything that isn't under the cover! It's like a ritual for her! She doesn't have a problem with poop sticking in her fur since we are "banding" the long hair and she seldom has a wet "skirt". If she does, I just blot it with a paper towel and between baths I "freshen" her up with the doggy bath wipes! Seems to be working well! ;) |
How sweet Toto having a wash before bedtime!! AHHH!! Don't know why I'm worrying - it was just a question as Gizzie always smells fresh and clean anyway. Gizmo the love of our lives (previous yorkie that we lost 2 years ago) always cleaned himself AND his "brother" Yogi - poor Yogi , he was able to do it for himself LOL. I'll be banned from this site with my topics LOL! |

Hope your babies are continuing to do well? Can't wait to see more pictures!! :D |
As the old saying goes, "there is never a stupid question". That is what I feel this site is for. We share stories, pics, and all of us have many questions whether it is our 1st dog or on our 20th. We love our babies and want the best for them. And this site is the best to get everyone's input. Please never feel embarressed (sp) about asking questions. I have never seen anybody judge anybody here on this site, that is what makes it so great. Everyone is the most helpful ever!! Yeah to you all!! :) |
OK! I will confess now ... it's about male dogs ... I have only owned one male dog and that was when I was six and my Daddy bought me a beautiful Collie [consolation for the birth of my sis! :) ]. crowmtn asked about "belly bands" in another thread and I have no clue what they are! I know I can do a search ... but it's easier to ask those who know! So? How about it? What are they used for? |
Belly bands are brilliant ideas for preventing males from peeing indoors. It is a band of material fastened with velco..you place a mini pad in the middle to absord the urine and cahnge it sveral times per day. They allow my boys to have freedom and not worry about ruined furniture. Great for visiting other peoples homes too. |
Bettyeanne!! I would never have known what they were either LOL. It is amazing what we can learn and before I had my 2 girls, I had FOUR boys !! Thanks Pat! Ana xx |
 That's a GREAT idea for males!! Thanks, Pat! Ana, although I had the male Collie as a child, he of course was an outside dog 99% of the time! I wonder ... if there had been belly bands way back then if my Daddy would have allowed Duke in the house all the time?? Nope!! He was a firm believer that a dog's place was outside! That is, until years later when I had a tiny little "Peek-a-poo"! He was as attached to her as I was! I have proof that she changed his mind about pets in the house! Picture of Daddy sleeping and Brandi sleeping on his chest in front of the TV in the den!! They were great pals and I miss them both!! ;) BTW ... she was the only pet ever allowed in his house!! :D |
Ummmmmmmmm I'm having the same problem!!!!!! Well now that my little Yorkie..he's 10..is now on his own...he doesn't seem to want to clean himself at all...His little yorkie brother 'Prince' always did it for him..sounds yuk...but he did...Now 'Sammie' doesn't clean himself...this has been going on since the loss of our Prince...I now have to constantly wipe him clean..(pee pee area)...If I don't he gets in a real state....I was wondering if it is just idleness and he has always had it done for him...but can't get him to bother....Crickey the things we do. Bathed 'Sammie' on Saturday....he looks lovely now too...went playing in the garden in the rain..got filthy so had to sort him out lol.!!!!! But guess it won't be long before he's mucky again....What to do.. :) :) |
