Just wondering Hi everyone, I was pondering a situation that I ran into the other day. I came across this little dog that I had not seen in the area before. Extremely friendly, stood up and did little dances, very cute. You could tell this was someones loved pet and probably had just gotten out. It had a collar, dog liscense, rabies tag & one of those avid chip tags. But you what was missing? A simple ID tag that had info who to contact right now. I would have been more than happy to call the owners or even take the dog to their home if the info had been on the collar. Towards the end of summer here on YT it seemed liked we had a few YT furbabies that went on the land. One can never really understand why they suddenly do some of things they do. Sometimes it is like their brain leaves their body and by the time their brain comes back they are far away from those that love them. So here is what I am wondering how many of you actually keep a collar and or harness on at all times with a ID tag? Before Phoebe went to the rainbow bridge I keep a cat collar(the break away type) on her with a bell and her ID tag which had my cell phone number on it. I had a seperate collar for her other tags. |
Lots of people prefer not to put personal contact information, their dogs names, etc. on a tag - makes it more difficult for people to try to keep the dog for any type of ransom, etc. If the dog had a microchip tag on then that would be the number you would call - you would just have to give them the number on the tag and they would know who's dog it was. For NON dog owners who don't know about microchipping who find a stray dog, I think it would be much easier for them to take action if your contact information was clearly on a tag on the dog's harness or collar. Maybe these people are like me though and are having a hard time finding just the 'right' tag to personalize for their puppy, lol. It took me months to find one small enough! |

I got the same problem with Rocky. I found a SUperman one, but it's kinda big and I dont want something too flashy. |
I totally understand about the tags being way to big! I had actually posed a question a while back about why dont they make these tags in all sizes. Response was cost. It also the reason that I had a seperate collar for Phoebes' other tags. I seriously thought she might do the head over tea kettle thing, from being weighted down. So that collar just hung with our keys. Btw this avid tag did not have a phone number on it. It just said avid microchip. I did however find a dog a fews years back that had the microchip tag with a phone number, I called it and they said they would contact the owners. 4 days later they finally reached them, the owners had moved over a year prior and not updated their info. Owners called to report the dog missing. :( |
