How Do You Make Him Cling To You?
 

Fellow YT.'s this is a question from my Sister whom refuses to get her butt on here herself to ask it........"How do you make your Yorkie cling to you, by cling I mean stay by your side and follow you every where around the House?
Both of mine do it Naturally b/c they just want to be near me or for what ever reason? I never had to "Train" either one of them to do it.
She has gated off her Kitchen, "Cookie's" domain she calls it, he is 6 months old now, if she brings him in any other part of her House.....he is leashed and attached to her side, I guess she attaches his Leash onto her belt buckle?
I am in South Carolina and she is in Texas, so I have'nt been able to meet him
"Cookie" in person yet, so I don't know what kind of advice to give her?
I thought I would ask the other Yorkie Experts?:confused:

I dont know what to tell her, Lillie and I bonded from day one. I'm not sure if I think I would WANT them to cling to me, you have to be so careful when there by you cause there right under your feet and can be easily stepped on. Does Cookie have a bond with someone else in the house?

My yorkie is completely in love with me and wont let me out of her site and I am pretty sure its becasue every minute of the day we are with each other. I sort of of spoil her and shower her with attention and she is so atached to me its pretty bad. She freaks out the minute I leave the room. BUt anyways its not something that I think you can force on a dog as they all have different personalities. I dont think that leashing him to her is goign to be very helpful. As a puppy, yorkies, like any other breed are just going to be playful and adventurous so right now he may not want to cling to her side and she shouldnt take that personally or think that he may never be "clingy". Just give him lots of attention and in a few months he will always want to be around her after he gets a little older.

Chloe seemed to bond to daddy her first year but now she 100% momma's girl ;)

What your sister is doing is often recommended for housebreaking purposes (& can be very effective, I might add). What is it that she wants Cookie to do that he isn't doing?

IMO..I think yorkies can be "clingy" all on their own. Mine have been like this since day one. Of course I have a new puppy now and she goes everywhere her big fursister goes.

I'd have to agree...Lady has been attached to my hip since I brought her home....she follows me everywhere...and when I leave her in the kitchen she has a fit....I would think the attachment is something that comes naturally...maybe Cookie is just more independent then other yorkies....

Mine are my shadow...lol They follow me everywhere I go!!! They are even in the bathroom with me while I take a shower.:D My babies could be sleeping on the couch and the minute they see me get up they jump and start following me. The other day I was laying on the couch with them and I went to move just to get comfortable and Timmy jumped from the couch thinking I was going to get up...lol He did it 3 times...lol and they will not go in my bedroom with daddy to sleep unless I am in there.

Sorry I'm no help but I didn't have to teach them to follow me around the house. It came naturally.

It may just be his personality. He might not be a clingy dog. It's smart that since he's young she keeps him attached to her in the house. This helps a lot with potty training and establishing leadership. But my yorkie is clingy and I literally can't go to the bathroom without him coming in! So tell your sister to be careful what she wishes for!

hahaha funny post - I'd like to know how to UN Velcro mine from my butt. I love how much they love me - but too clingy isn't always good either - mine are by my side 24/7...when I sleep they sleep - when I work - they are right here with me - when I go to the bathroom - they're there too - they dont miss a MOVE I make .....The problem I have is they get just devestated when I'm not home and I'd love to see them less traumatized.....but it does make for a HUGE party when I walk in the door.

I got one of those sling carriers and carried Jewels around with me as a puppy and she is clingy. I dont know if it would work with an adult dog but its worth a try

I don't know. I thought yorkies were just naturally by your side. Mine is. The only time she leaves my side is to get a drink or chase her ball. Other than that she is right there next to me.:)

Simply put...you can't make a dog love you or even like you for that matter. If they haven't bonded yet then what she is doing won't make things any better. I have 2 males and they are totally different, Jo is independant and will come to me when he wants to, Riley is part velcro! Don't get me wrong, Jo loves to snuggle and be carried around but it's when he wants to and not neccessarily when I want to...as long as he can see what I'm doing he's fine. Riley, on the other hand, is so attached to me that sometimes he gets in the way. I can't do anything without him right next to me or on me. I can't use the restroom without opening the door and him practically falling in the room, he lays on the rug when I cook, he helps me unload the dishwasher, put groceries away..everything I do he's there...he lays against me when I go to sleep and wakes me (at sunrise) in the morning. Jo prefers to sleep in, at least until 7. They all have different personalities... some are clingy and some aren't but that doesn't mean they don't love you. Now, if I could only combine the 2 personalities, a little more here...a little less there...it would make the perfect dog ;) Maybe your sister's Yorkie is more independant like Jo.

Tell her to keep treats in her pocket, Cookie will never leave her side. :D

Dezi is always by my side. When she is not, she is up to no good! LOL

This is exactly how it is with Codie and Tia. They are devestated when I leave the house. I wish they weren't because it upsets me to see them so upset but what can I do? They're so sweet and I love having them with me all the time -- although Tia is pretty crazy about her daddy too! She is always going over to him for her daily dose of kisses! :p Gotta love puppy kisses!! :D :D
