Pet Insurance? Does anybody have pet insurance? What kind do you have and how has it helped you so far? I have VPI...but it doesn't cover as much as I had hoped. Anybody want to share their experiences? |
I have the Banfield wellness puppy plan; so far it has covered everything that Cordelia needed to have done. It was $100 to join and it cost i think $15-20 per month. The issue is they close at 6:00pm Mon-Sat and are closed on Sundays. Next year though I will be getting rid of it and go with the insurance plan through the AKC. I need something that will be there if there is ever an emergency |
100% wow! I can't believe you found something that covers 100%. VPI covered our first check-up, %100 of her puppy shots, 100% of her Heartguard, and about 30% of her Frontline. However, she wacked her head on the coffee table a few weeks ago and the scab just wasn't going away so we took her into the vet to check it out. And the insurance wounldn't cover any of that visit even though the vet maked it down as an injury. My baby is very accident prone and I'm sure there will be many more head-wacking visits to the vet. It would be nice to find something that covers at least part of that. |
Yeah we had VPI and got rid of it, it was so difficult to use and we got the "better" plan that was supposed to cover vet visits, shots, etc but they didnt cover this visit where we took Rocky when he was throwing up becuase they said the doctor couldnt "diagnose" anything, by the time we paid the premium, it was just not worth it. I personally would recommend to take the $40 (well that is how much it was for us because we had it on both at the time) a month and put it in a bank. It adds up pretty fast and before you know it you are paying the insurance company a fortune. If there was one that covered absolutely everthing, I might say go for it. But, there is a new protocol that our dogs only need to be vaccinated every 3 years because they are being over vaccinted, so with the less vaccinations, I think unless anything goes wrong (which you have to expect to be at the vet atleast 4 different time for random things when they are puppies, we were the MOST paranoid parents and would take Rocky for EVERYTHING, but we learned with Haley and Maya that we can wait a day or so and see if they are ok, usually once we got to the vet with Rocky he wouls magically get better lol) anyways, I just wasnt satisified for what I was paying for with VPI. |
I agree Yes exactly! We took her in because we were so worried about this lump on her head. We thought it was a scab at first...but then it started getting bigger and it had been 2 weeks and it still hadn't gone away. A friend of mine had just had her Snorkie in for surgery to remove a tumor. So I was particularly afraid that she had some kind of growth on her head. Anyway the vet said it was just a scab and that she just kept re-bumping the spot and that is why it was getting bigger and not going away. But the insurance wouldn't cover it becuase there was no treatment needed. ps. if anybody knows where I can get a crash-helmet in her size...let me know because she is always banging into something or other. |
