Bringing a new yorkie into the family with a dog Hi Everyone- I am a new member and I am already learning a lot just from reading the posts. I would like to have some suggestions or helpful hints for adding a 5 year old yorkie into our family with a two year old yorkiepoo. We just brought him home on Sunday and want them to bond as quickly as possible. any suggestions?:animal36 |

Well congrats! Pretty much you have to let nature take its course.... But I have found sit in the middle of the couch so there is room on both sides of you and no territory issues. Take both everywhere with you, even the vets. Play with both at the same time, even if you have to multitask and play two different games at once. More than likely they will bond rather quickly. Be sure the Yorkiepoo never gets left out. It was his home first. Best of luck and congrats!:) |

I have a 2 1/2 yr old yorkie girl and got a new puppy 5 weeks ago...it went alot better than I thought..I have been a pet owner for many many years. I used to bring in strays all the time and find homes for them...(mostly cats, although I had brought in some dogs as well) It took a while for them to bond (especially if it were an adult animal). but eventually they did..sometimes they didn't also....Good luck with your new furbaby! |

The only advice I have to give you is make sure your yorkiepoo comes first. Give him attention first and treats first and so on. Your puppy will adapt it is your yorkie poo who might have jealousy problems |

You can't force bonding -- right! Just let them be around one another - discourage any unfriendly behavior - and love both of them. Play with the two of them together as much as possible. They should soon become fast friends. I have introduced a lot of new animals to my family (cats and dogs) - and have never had any problems. Carol Jean |
