Introduction Hello Everyone! I just found this site and would like to introduce myself and my family. I am Brandi in Casper, WY. I have 3 human kids and 3 canine kids- one lab mix, 1 chiuaua mix, and a brand new to (our home) 9 month old female, tiny yorkie named Tinkerbell. We got her from a lady who just did not have the time to spend with her at home and wanted a better social life for her. She fits in very well with our family, both people and pet. We are experiencing some challenges with her, she has extra teeth and though she doesn't act like they hurt her I worry that they will sometime. She goes potty on the same pads we use for our chiuaua (I put 2 down now), but gets the mess in her fur and I think I might have our groomer shave her bottom. In your experience, will that affect her self esteem? I don't want to do anything detrimental to her psychy, but I have been giving her daily baths and wonder if the shave would not be easier on us both. |

Welcome!! I would see what the groomer can do to help with the wetting her fur problem, maybe just trim her up a bit. Cali my 15 month old retained most of her puppy teeth, but in the last few months 2 came out on their own and the vet was able to pull 3 loose baby molars while she was awake. If she hasn't been spayed they can remove them then. I asked the vet if she thought the extra teeth bothered her ans she didn't think so. |

I had the same problem with both of mine as babies - getting the urine on the fur. My groomer just trimmed it up. It's not a problem these days. Hopefully the baby teeth will come out - tug of war helps. If not, they will need to be removed at spay time or when deemed appropriate by your vet. Just want to keep a close watch so that it doesn't permanently mess up her bite - that has happened. Welcome to YT and enjoy your new baby.:) |
Thanks All for the welcome! It isn't urine that is a problem, it is her bm. That's why it is such a problem. My 14 year old son is already so attatched to her, but has also had to get up and wash his bedding because the stuck in her fur poop got on his sheets! I will take her to our groomer this week for a new look! ;) |
Yep! They can trim that, too. If you have a mustache trimmer, you can do it!:D |

Hi welcome to yorkie talk! I have 3 dogs too: 1 boxer, 1 chihuahua, and a yorkie. Alot of yorkies have extra teeth and normally the vets like to wait until they are about a year old and they like to spay them and remove the teeth all in one setting. And yes you should have your groomer shave your babies bottom area, this is what I do for my yorkie Chloe. :) |

Hi & Welcome to YT, Trimming the bottoms will do the trick, but I will pass on to you what my vet told me. I have a 10 month male yorkie whose tail got cut really, really short....so short the nerve was damaged and will never waggle :( . Anyway he said his only concern with that was that there wouldn't be anything covering his little butt hole and flies might land and cause infection. So I do trim him bottom, but leave enough length coming from the top to cover the hole...lol Oh and about the teeth Duncan had no baby teeth to be pulled out, and like someone said the tug of war really helps to loosen up the teeth also a lot of chew toys and bones. Those baby teeth will need to be removed at least by her first birthday if they don't come out on their own. They can cause decay to the permanent teeth. My yorkie is not a chewer and will have to have a yearly cleaning. Yorkies are notorious for dental problems which can lead to infections, tooth loss and other illness. Congratulations on your new yorkie. You can always trim her hair yourself. Next time, just trim off the hair with the poop on it. Obviously that's the hair that's getting in the way. You don't have to shave it all off. |
