How hard is it having 3 instead of 2? I have a chihuahua and my yorkie. Both are small(5 lb and 2 1/2 lb). I saw an adorable yorkie for sale and I have the money...the question is: How much harder is it having 3 dogs instead of 2? I know the benefit is that this new one will be the same age as mine so they could play. My chihuahua is 8 years old and not that into playing. BUT...I like that I can take my yorkie with me easily in her purse, with two yorkies it'd be so much harder. I love that Lola can sit in my lap while I'm on the computer, not so sure my lap is big enough for 2. Plus with two dogs I could find someone to watch them if I went somewhere or take them to a hotel that allows pets. Three seems like it'd be so much harder. I'm asking the experts :) When you added your third dog, did you regret it? Even a little? I sometimes watch my brother's dog and it's a pain but maybe it's different if it's your own? |
well i have 4 and i dont regret it but if you want to take them everywhere with you 3 will be harder.:) |
HI. Just 6 months ago we had 2 dogs. One is an 8 year old cockapoo and one is a 3 year old cockapoo. Then we got our Yorkie, Lucinda. For the first weeks, I thought that we had made a terrible mistake. In fact, I thought of selling her. But now, we are so in love with her that there is no way that we would give her up. She and our 3 year old play together many times a day. It looks like that our rough housing....like 2 little kids. It is so good for both of them. It does cost more in all the care needs, it does cause more housework from the things they track in, more poop to scoop in the yard BUT a third dog is more entertaining, more interesting, and much more LOVE in the house. I do think that at first you might think you shoud not have added the 3rd dog but give it time and you will probably be so very happy that you have one more little fur kid to enjoy! |
i have one and my mom has two. when i dog sit and have all 3 it can be real tough. walking them is difficult. my biggest concern when i have all 3 is when we go for a walk and another dog approaches us i feel out of control. i can't pick up all 3 to protect them. and i feel i need alot of extra time to play with them. three is a handfull for me. |
I have 3 girls and love it. We still take them to a lake resort with us every other week. Just last week they all stayed in a hotel room with us. I have a stroller to for when I go the the vets office or petco. I LOVE having 3 and have even considered a fourth.:aimeeyork :aimeeyork :aimeeyork |
If you have the time (as they all will still need the one-on-one), and the money (grooming, preventatives, etc.) and can prepare for the occasional fighting (alphas) then you would be great with three. I love all three of mine but I used to have four and I really felt that I was short-changing them at times. Good luck with the decision. |
Accidently hit send button too many times.......oops. |
Oh I don't know but like you I would love to find out. ha ha |
I have three and I don't regret it. Walking is a lot more difficult with three than 2. I tend to only take one with me at a time, but I don't feel bad because the other isn't left at home alone. Traveling with all three is much more difficult, but since I don't travel much I didn't take that into consideration. Hotels usually have a 2 dog limit. Now, when my Mom visits with her two - five is a lot, especially when the doorbell rings! In conclusion, three might not be for everyone, but I have really enjoyed having all of them, especially since one of mine doesn't play very much and the two youngest really have a good time together. |
We have 3. The chihuahua, is basically my husbands buddy, but I truly LOVE him very much. He turned out to be a monster at 14#. The two girls are small so they are easier to take. I usually just take one if I go somewhere where I will be carrying them. I have a stroller when I take both. When I walk the chihuahua walks and the girls go in the stroller. I love having all three but they do take more time with grooming and all. I have NO problem giving them all the love they need.;) |
2 Attachment(s) I recently became a three furbaby household and, for me, it hasn't been that much of a difference. Yes, at first I felt a little overwhelmed...bathing, grooming and walking have had it's challenges...But, the issues have seemingly worked themselves out. I bathe all three together while my daughter, assists with the drying. I do their ears, eyes, and brushing myself. And, walking has become a sinch as they all seem to stop and squat at the same time...Although I haven't mastered keeping their chains untangles yet. Their food expense hasn't increased by much as we all know, they really don't eat much. There are very few quarrels, if any... And, household tidyness... WELL, that's an ongoing work in progress! ;) So, I guess in closing, I'd have to say that it all depends on the personalities of the furbabies that you currently have and the one that your thinking about getting. Overall...The more; the merrier!!! |
Not only didn't regret my 3rd dog, didn't regret my 4-7th either. :) Yes it makes things harder, just like having another child does.. but it makes them all the more loving too.. My theory is, where there is a will, there is a way. If you want it to work, you will make it work. |

All 3 of yours are just adorable. |
4 Attachment(s) OK, I had to come back here to tell you, I have found one down fall to 3. I did a photo shoot tonight with my 3 wonderful girls, and let me tell you, I have never snapped photos so fast in my life. However in the end I did get a few good pics(out of 50) LOL Pipersmommy, you are so sweet, thank you. I am not on here much anymore and wasn't even sure if anyone remembered me and my girls. |
Awww they are adorable....I just got my 4 dog, which my GSD stays outside 95% of the time, but it isn't bad at all, the first week is a adjustment period but after that they are best buds, If you have a very strong alpha dog make sure you don't get another one or you will have problems....:) |
