Harness/Collar ID Tag Delema Hello All! I always use a harness to walk my little guy, but then I take it off when we get back home. I don't want to leave the harness on all the time, because my groomer said that they can cause the hair to break. I do own a collar but I am afraid to leave it on him for fear of a collapsed treachea or it simply getting caught on something & choking him. I'm worried that as careful as I am, that he may slip out of door, or the fence door when someone comes in or out & then be on the run with no ID tag. I always worry about this, BUT.....tomorrow I am going away for 4 days & my BF's mom will be staying at my house watching him & my 10yr old daughter. She will also be hostessing our Model Home & be bringing him to work during the day just like I do. It's terrible really.....I'm more worried about Snickers than my daughter (she can take care of herself pretty well). Any feedback or suggestions? Sorry so long:) |
How about breakaway collars? I know they are recommended as the dog (or cat) can wiggle out of it once the collar gets caught on something... |
1 Attachment(s) I make silk collars. Silk is very gentle on our furkid's delicate hair. One of my customers purchases the slide on type of collar id tag and I add it to the collar. I have both break-away type buckles and regular buckles. |
collar vs/harness I agree the harness is great for walking and such I do the same with Bubba I bring him in and leave his colar on withhis id and rabesand such on and I keep a lead on him in the house so I can keep up with him - I like the silk collars too- they are softer to the skin but they do'nt last as long for Bubba- so I have to replace them more often.bas1:) |
How much are your collars Chattiesmom and is there anything else you make lol. xoxo |
I also take the harness off and do not have a collar on either because I had a dog try to chew it off and they got their jaw caught in the collar for hours, stupid was I Never again |

Yes, Carol, I do make lots of different things. I don't want to "hijack" someone else's thread, so send me a pm and I'll give you the long list :) |
I keep My tags on the pups at all times.I use a the break away type. I don't think you will have to worry about colapsed trek if you are not walking with the collar. |
I checked with my vet and breeder... I have a little pink collar on Lullabelle all the time but I keep her tags in my purse. The only way the collar could get stuck on something is if its too loose and a collapsed trachea isn't a worry as long as you don't pull on it. LullaBelle is happy as a clam. |
I try to keep kizzy and maggies collars on them during the day cause I let them in and out during the day as they want to go and come. But If I take them out of the fenced yard for a walk, I Put on their harnesses and leashes as there is no way I would pull on them or let them pull on a leash with a collar. but I like the collars on them mainly when their outside just in case they could figure a way to get out so they would have their name tags and rabies tag and kizzy has a microchip tag . I want them to have identification on them when their outside playing. |
