How long is my moral obligation? Like some of you know, I have a Yorkie mix that was lost/or abandoned. He came to me..Literally to my house and Ive had him now for nearly 3 months. I have posted locally and also on the internet about finding this dog. The thing is I love this dog DEARLY. He loves me. He was in such terrible condition when he came to me and now is the perfect picture of health. How long should I keep him posted as a found dog? What would you all do? I cringe everytime I get an email and its someone inquiring but it always turns out that its not the same dog. I will simply fall to pieces should I ever get THE call. Also something tells me that he wasnt treated very well. Hes very sensitve and also is afraid of a newspaper and a fly swatter. That tells me that someone evidently hit him. I think. Anyway...Im about ready to just pull the ad ....but sometimes my conscience gets to me and just what IF someone really does come along to re-claim him? I just dont know.. Just wondering what you might do in my shoes. |
3 months? I would pull it. I know at some point he was someone's dog but by what you are saying he must have been hit before and thats a big NO NO in my book |
Did you say three months?? And you posted him all over as a found dog?? I'd say he's YOUR dog now:) |
I don't think I would give the baby back. If they wanted him so badly I would think they would have found him by now. I know if something happened to Amber I would be looking everywhere! and I mean everywhere until I got her back. I know I am probably a mean person but I would keep her. Laurie |
At this point, depending on the situation, I'd take anyone claiming him to court over it. Seriously, I'm not saying, "you found him, you should keep him if you want him." But seriously, it's been 3 months! I would think anyone who lost him, would have been in contact with you by now if they were seriously making an effort to find him. Unless it's some bizarre situation like, 'he was stolen, driven 100s of miles and thrown out,' which I'd think is unlikely. Anyway...just my take on it. |
It's been 3 months? I'm curious to see what others say, but if you've done everything you can up to this point to get the word out, I'd stop worrying about it. There's always the possibility the original owner will show up, but I think you've met your obligation as far as "waiting" goes. MG, if Ginger were gone 3 months and I hadn't found her, I'm thinking I would have to give up. (now I'll be having nightmares about that:rolleyes: ) |
I know how you feel We found a black lab mix... beautiful dog. We took him to the dog pound where his owners could come to get him... But after 10 days the dog goes up for adoption. When no one came for him we adopted him. For months i waited to have some one call or pound on my door looking for him back but they never did. (We live in a very small town) I wouldl say he is yours... with draw the adds and keep him... You have done all you can.:D |
Yes just what Im thinking..We had some flies get in the house and I was swatting them with the fly swatter..He saw the swatter and ears lowered and he sulked to the living room and climbed up on my husbands lap. My husband said that with every swat he would be startled. Yes, Im thinking he was mistreated. Poor little guy. When he came he had soooo many ticks on him. BIG ONES! When you lifted his ear the inside was totally full of ticks! and his whole body. He must have been gone from home for a VERY long time or wasnt taken care of in the first place. Im about ready to pull the ad. I was just trying to do the right thing by posting in the first place. I just couldnt imagine that someone wasnt looking with all their heart and soul for this dog. Ive never known anythiny any sweeter in my life than this little guy. |

well if my dog was missing i would be looking in minutes much less 3 months i don't think they care about the fact he's gone i wouldn't really want to find ther owner! unless he was stolen or something but still a owner that cared would be looking placing adds! |
I'd say he's yours now. |
Thank you. One ad pulled and working on another. Id say hes mine too. Besides..He loves his new name..Bob...:animal36 |
You've done the responsible thing, at this point if someone wanted to claim him I'd be asking for room and board for three months. I'd say he's yours. I would have given them 2 weeks. |
;) Look what I wrote in this ad... Dog Description: Small (0 - 20 lbs) Gold/Yellow/Tan Male Yorkshire Terrier 15.3 pds..neutered male..was gone for awhile from owner because he was thin and covered in ticks. Think he maybe mixed with schnauzer. I totally love this dog but realize that someone might miss and want him back home. so I think its only right that I post I found him..or I should say he found me.. Found in: newalla, Oklahoma United States I guess I didnt want to give him up right away... |
