Please, any advice... What am I doing wrong?? Pepper went to the groomer on Tues... They clipped him very short and got rid of the mats... But now I'm combing him and can't put the metal comb through again! It's already knotted... I'm close to tears, what can I do... Any advice, please....CM doesn't seem to help and I'm using a lot.. his hair is like wool... |
Hmmmm, I would try just using lots and lots of doggy condititoner, and when you are washing her just kind of rub it through strait and dont scrub it up like we do our own hair. Good luck and let me know how it goes. |
There are lots of spray on, leave in conditioners that help when combing out tangles. Most brands have something available and it does make a huge difference. |
Chachi has a cotton coat and what i do with him is I brush his hair through when I have the conditioner on for his bath. I also keep his hair short and it is more managable |
seems like that groomer didn't even get all te mats out.. i keep combing put new ones.. at least the poor guy stopped fighting me and went to sleep. trying to be as slow and gentle as possible :( . I have a conditioner spray and Cowboy Magic as well... |
Mimi matts easily too....CM and a flea comb worked for me but since I've had her groomed I don't have to worry about the matts anymore. I think I will be keeping her short at all times because I feel it hurts her when I would try to get the matts out. |
I know he just went to the groomer and got a bath, but I would bathe him again and use creme conditioner (even if it is yours). Before you rinse it out, comb it thru really good and that should help loosen up any tangles he has. I used to have trouble with Lily, but conditioner has become my new friend. I use Pantene Smooth and Sleek on her. With doggy shampoo, of course! You might want to snip out the mats and just start from scratch. It has to hurt when you are trying to comb them out :( |
I also recommend combing with the conditioner in. I would also up combing him twice a day (if you are currently doing once a day) with spray on conditioner. Also you could tray using a thinning rake. This will basically cut out the mats as you comb him. It will also thin down his coat; however, using one of these won't allow you to grow his coat long. And by no means should you use this everyday. Good luck |
Petsmart has a De-Matting tool that is awesome! I have 5 yorkies but only one has the cottony hair and that tool is a lifesaver for me AND him! Well worth the money! |
Thanks Guys.. I really took my time and combed as gently as I could, I guess he wasn't hurting coz he just fell asleep on my lap. I discovered a good way to comb, taking a clump of hair at a time and flipping it upside down, holding very close to the skin and then combing it - the skin doesn't pull at all! :) Took almost 2 hours but I only have a few spots left for tonight... The trick is I have to wait when he's half asleep (Got up at 5 today coz my boy isn't an early bird LOL)... |
Sounds like you found a way to work it out!! I am trring to keep Cali mat free since she was groomed Tuesday and I have brush handy and every few hours I run it through and then every night I am combing her out. |
