Yorkie Odor! Hello, does anyone know why yorkies pick up bad odors so fast? I would give my toby a bath, she's all clean and smelling fresh. I take her outside for her to use the bathroom for about 5 minutes and bring her inside and already she starts to stink. How do I eliminate my puppies odor without having to give her a bath? |
Odor? I don't begin to smell the "dog" smell on my Yorkie unless it has been a few days (like 3 or so). On a side note, hair in general (and this may apply to their fur) helps keep odors in. That is why we have hair in our armpit area. Although...we all know this doesn't help everyone...(ever ride on a crowded bus on a hot day? Ewwwww!). |
I try to bathe Chelsea, once a week, but she HATES baths. Its not a great experience for both of us, and its gotten to where I dread it. I am open to any suggestions, of how to make this more fun for both of us. In between baths, I spray her with Cologne & Deodorant for Pets, I have used it for many years on my previous poodles, and I was intro to it by a groomer. Nice scent and will last me a year, so Santa usually puts a can, in Chelsea's Christmas stocking. Hope this helps! http://www.farnampet.com/product.php...age&pid=100301 Chelsea's Mom :aimeeyork |
Don't know why. Perhaps she is getting into something in the yard? Mine really hardly ever smells. I bathe her every week, and use a spray to comb her with that smells wonderful, but she really doesn't smell! Pat |
What I have read Yorkies are one of the few dogs that although have lots of hair they dont smell unless they are not bathing. I bathe Violeta once a week and she wont smell by the time she gets to the other bath. Their hair has to be completly dried after the bath if not IT WILL SMELL, also the daily grooming helps and there are this doggie wipes that are really nice, you wipe him with them and after brushing the hair just blow dry a little. |
hailey usually starts to smell after a week. otherwise she doesn't |
Well i bathe my toby once every 3 days and i brush her daily, i do spray the dog cologne on her and she does smell like that after i spray her, but everytime i let her outside and she runs back inside I can smell the strong dog odor. |
smell I don't have as severe of a problem as you described...but I know what you mean. Syd has a very greasy head (especially around her ears) and that starts to smell by the end of a week. Weekly baths are very necessary to keep her head clean but dry out the rest of her body...so I have to use conditioner for the rest of her. I don't have any advice except brush her once a day if you don't already do that. What kind of smell is it? Is she her fur just picking up the smell of other things? For some reason their hair seems to do that. Syd smells like her Daddy's cologne all day from the hug she gets in the morning. And sometimes she smells like fresh air when she comes in from outside. |
Well, I notice after Cordelia has been playing outside with the cats she smells musky, so I just buy those puppy wipes and just wipe her down with one of those. I usually give her a bath and clean her ears once a week. I spray this conditioning spray on her that also smells really good. |
My toby is really agressive when we try to clean her ears. Also her odor is a musky odor like from excessive sweating. And her head is always greasy and it stays clean for like the first day after that its greasy again. Maybe my puppy just sweats excessively? although the temperature inside the house is at a constant 70 and the texas weather right now is around 75 so that cant be the problem. |
There are special doggie wipes (like baby wipes) that work very well and conditions the coat and skin of dogs. My vet also recommends regular baby wipes with Aloe and skin conditioners (like Huggies) . I use them all the time on Comet, especially during the rainy and humid season and they seem to work extremely well. My Vet advises not to bathe more than once a month, so the wipes work great for Comet. Also, brushing the coat every night at bed time, helps to remove odors as well. Hope this works for you!
