Getting another Yorkie I am recently the owner of an almost 4 year old female yorkie and I was thinking about getting another yorkie for her to play with. The yorkie I am going to look at today is 12 weeks old and a male. I am not interested in breeding, just a playmate. My female is not fixed and am worried about her getting pregnant with all the things that I have heard about breeding yorkies. Should I get another yorkie or a different dog. |
:welcome4: to Yt :D do they not have a female? IF he's only 12 weeks old you don't have to worry RIGHT NOW when he's 7 months on is when you need to start worry. |
Welcome aboard! Are you planning on spaying her? If not, can you consider another female or get the male and neuter him. I bet she would love a brother or sister. Good luck and have fun!!! |
no females, just one male left |
I wouldn't mind little bit(my yorkie) having babies for me to keep, just a little skeptical. There is only one male left of that litter. |
and thank you for the welcome!!!!! |
and thank you for the welcome |
If you're not interested in breeding (or they are not breeding quality) I would have them both spayed and neutered for health reasons. Here's a link that tells about the benefits. http://dogbreedinfo.com/spayingneutering.htm Here's another link about deciding whether to breed or not to consider. http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/breeding.htm P.S. we have had 'dads' on here younger than 7 months, but AKC does require the male to be at least 7 months to have the puppies registered with AKC. |
Breeds Well if you do get him, I would definitely get him neutered. And I would also think about getting the one you have now spayed as well. As far as you getting another YORKIE, well that is entirely up to you :D They are a great breed, but there are other great breeds as well. A Yorkie's personality just "clicks" with me though, and I have had several different breeds of dogs. But I gotta tell ya, I LOVE Cocker Spaniels and Mini Doxies! :D |
