Please I need a quick answer regarding this Thanks Ok by now you must all know that Royce has separation anxiety whenever i leave for work he starts crying . My neighbor who has a cat suggests that Royce stays with snoops the cat during the day sothat they keep each other company ? What do you think ? Is it a good idea ? Ihave to mention that snoops is a big fat cat one and a half the size of my baby ..do you think the cat will hurt him and scratch his face with his nails??????any experience with leaving a yorkie with a cat???? pls give your thoughts on this. |
Is he declawed?? Personally, I would not leave my babies with a cat by themselves. Esp a cat that is not use to dogs. Your baby might get to hyper and too into playing with the cat and cats don't usually take very much of that puppy play. JMO. |
I don't think it's a good idea to leave Royce unsupervised with a cat. I'd be afraid the cat could hurt him, even not intending to. Have you tried leaving an article of your clothing with Royce while you're away? |
My first questiion would be is he declawed or are his nails cut short? My cat took to all 7 of my dog babies but that doesn't mean they all do. Good luck. |
1 Attachment(s) Here is an example of when I brought Stormi home at 11 weeks old. By the way, Stormi is the dog! lol |

Can you take your furbaby to a doggy daycar, during the day? or have some one stay with her while your at work? I dont think leaving your furbaby with a cat, that its not used to, is a good idea. |
You have to be trustworthy of the cat and sure he won't hurt him. I got my poodle a brother (kitten) and have grown to be the best of brothers and sisters. I raised them both together and it has been one of the best choices I have made. They play together and keep each other company.............I got the kitten at 8 weeks though and had the opportunity to raise them since then. |

Unless the cat was raised around dogs..don't think I would. Maybe try you and pup "visiting" them many times before you acutally leave them together. This way they can socialize, and see how they do get along. Pups love to play, and if the cat isn't used to this, could be a disaster, claws or not. |
Is it possible for you to get him pet of his own? |
I really feel for your situation - it really does sound like you've tried everything. How disappointing that the training sessions didn't work... I really wish I had some advice to offer you but it really sounds as if you've tried everything. Here are some links to sites I found on this topic - I'm sure you've already exhausted all these measures, but it's worth a shot... http://www.usask.ca/wcvm/herdmed/app...s/anxiety.html http://www.wagntrain.com/SeparationAnx.htm - this article actually mentions about the dog sleeping with you, which I know you had mentioned in one of your previous posts as one of the trainer's recommendations - I guess the theory is that if the dog can survive sleeping without you during the night, that they are more likely to be able to survive the day without you as well. http://www.hsus.org/pets/pet_care/ou...n_anxiety.html - this link has interesting information on leaving "safety cues" for your dog when you are leaving... http://www.metpet.com/Reference/Dogs...ty_in_dogs.htm Maybe start from scratch again with the methods that the trainer recommended. I just hope you find a solution that works for you and Royce - I would really hate to hear that you've had to give him up. Good luck! |
If the cat is not declawed(( NO WAY)) i love cats but they do like to play different than dogs. try finding someone with a pup or a pet that can play with you baby and take turns taking them at each other house. you would be surprise how many people would do this. |

COOL picture I had to leave CHloe at my girlfriends when she was a little one so I was afraid, grilfriend was understanding, we left Chloe in her crate and her dogs & cats to roam as they always did. Chloe was so interested wacthing everyone else, she did not mind being in the crate with the entertainment. She does well to this day in her crate there, even when I am there visiting. We are both afraid to let my girls run loose with her "hotdog" Maizy. It works well:) PS I DID buy Sissy because of CHloe having sep.anxiety! That worked excellent, even better then the crate at Kay's house |
1 Attachment(s) I agree with supervised visits first. I had two very fat and spoiled cats before I got my yorkie. They weren't too fond of her at first, but they tolerate her now. John (yellow tabby male) loves playing with her now. Jo Jo (grey calico female) just ignores her and does her own thing. She is really picky and really doesn't like anyone except for me. When I brought Bree home, I just kept them separated in different rooms until I came home. Then I would let them get together. Now the three of them run wild in the house all day, while the Lab puppy has to be in his kennel when we are not home.... I don't want my stuff chewed up! :cat: Lil' John and Jo Jo:cat: Attachment 69366 |
That is one sweet picture!!!! |

But an idea comes to me that if she could leave him in a playpen with a cover like mine, then he would be safe from the cats claws and also have company |
I have 5 cats that i leave with my babies, they have their full claws and aren't cut. I had 3 of my kittys before my doggy babies and 2 after my doggie babies, ive have had no trouble at all, but as this cat hasn't been around dogs it might not be a good idea :) |
Why don't you take your baby around the cat and see how they do get them used to each other then one day keep the cat when your home a couple of times and see how they do...My cats 3 of them are afraid of Bear & Lexie now, they tag team them....I feel sorry for the cats, but I know they can jump up on something to get away....lol |
