New here and black yorkie question I am getting my yorkie in about 2 1/2 weeks. I went and saw them yesterday and they are adorable. I am having trouble picking between the male and female. They are little and will not get over 3-5 lbs. Any suggestions on the difference in the sexes? Also, these two pups are completely black in color with one white hind paw. My fiance's mother's uncle (who has bred yorkies for years) said this is the first time he has seen solid black with no reddish markings. My question is, will they get the reddish markings or will they stay black? Is this normal or rare? Thanks for all the help in advance. kellyntx |

I'm by no means an expert but,I wouldn't be too concerned. It can take up to 18 - 24 months for them to get their adult colors. I have a yorkie that has blonde on his legs and head and he is almost 14 months old. But, he did have the reddish tan markings on his head and legs at this age. Good Luck and keep us posted on which you decide to get. |
How old is the pup you are planning to get? They usually will have some other colors almost from the beginning. It is possible these are "chocolate" yorkies which is a color anomolie. Although they can be registered with the AKC, this is considered an undesirable trait. Fine for a pet quality but not if you plan to show or breed. I only have a female, so I don't have personal experience with males, but I hear you can have a very difficult time keeping them from marking even after they are neutered. I would personally go with the personality of the pup you like the best from your visits. |
Lets see, they are about 10 weeks right now. The male is much smaller than the female. I was leaning towards the female because that is what my brother has but I don't know. |
I'd love to see some pics.......... |
could you please post pics? i have never seen a all black yorkie though .do they have papers? could it possibly be a mix like a yorkie-poo? |
I am no expert either but I have never heard of an all black Yorkie. All Yorkie pups that I have seen have been Black and tan. THey almost resemble a Rotti pup. By 10 weeks i would say that if the tan was to come out it would have by then. I would tend to think that maybe she is a mix. Good luck. I would love to see some pics as well. Michelle |
I have a male and a female - The ONLY trait that I prefer one over the other is Ruthie squats to pee 100% of the time, whereas Oscar squats about 80% and lifts his leg the rest of the time. I have them pee pad trained so when Oscar lifts his leg on the pad, it often doesn't end up on the pad. He does NOT mark around the house though and never has. As far as personality goes, it really depends on the dog - some say that males are more affectionate and females are more independant and aloof, but I find that both of mine are affectionate, and if anything, Ruthie is more so. It really all comes down to the personality of the puppy, so like someone else suggested, I would go by that when deciding if you really don't have a preference between girl/boy. Good luck! Whatever you decide will be the right choice and you won't regret it - boy or girl, you can't go wrong with a Yorkie! |

This is what the yorkies should look like: http://www.ytca.org/pictures.html Also, have you seen BOTH parents of these puppies? If not, tell them you want to see both parents. It is possible they aren't what they are said to be. |
i have never heard of an all black yorkie before. maybe it is a mix |
No idea what to tell you about the black yorkie. I'd definetly ask to see both mom & dad. As far as boy vs. girl, go with your instinct and whichever puppy has the personality you're looking for. They're all sweet little snugglebugs (90% of the time :p ) regardless of their gender!! |
Yes they all have papers. The dogs are kept in seperate pins so I don't think it could be a mix. He has said that some of his dogs throughout the years have had a little white on them but it faded as they got older. I probably won't be able to post pics until about 2 weeks but I will see. I just firmly believe they are full blood because he is family. I am gonna research it a bit more though. I will try and get some pics posted. |

Good luck I like my male because he trained easier. I like my female because she is a sweetie who loves to give kisses. for you though? Please tell me they are not in outside pins. |
