Seperation Anxiety medicine Does anyone have their yorkie on anti anxiety medicine for separation anxiety? I would appreciate any info on this and if there are any side effects that you know of. I have always been home with my Mitsie, and since I started working a month ago she has not been adapting at all to my being gone. She is barking when i leave and barking when I get home. At times she looses her voice from barking so much while I am gone. The bad part, is that she also has very soft stools from all the stress and I am constantly having to clean her up from it sticking to her back legs fur. Any tips you have I would appreciate. Someone told me to go get her some separation anxiety pills but I worry about giving her "psych pills"........... |
I have not but I wanted to bump you up to get the attention you need. Good luck.:animal-pa |
Hello there! Well I know that my Lilly gets sad too, when I have to leave for work. But I wanted to tell you , that they sell homopathic drops that go into there water, or on there toys that help with being home alone. Things like "rescue remedy" http://www.sacred-space.com.au/pet-health.html are great and safe for pets. I am not sure if putting your little furbaby on meds is the best thing. I would do a google search on homopathic medicine, or even your local "supper suppliments" store will carry it. Good luck! ~Lizette |
homopathic drops :) Thank you for that info I never thought of looking into homopathic treatments. I really don't like the idea of using drugs on her. I have tried everything, even leaving the tv on. I am having to crate her while I am gone because when I left her out she had an accident in the kitchen and it was everywhere when I got home. This is a very clingy yorkie she has always followed me everywhere and hates to be alone. I have been upset seeing what it is doing to her and I am sure she senses that too. |
ALL yorkies hate being alone. Instead of medicating, you really NEED to look into training your yorkie to deal with the separation anxiety. I would recommend contacting a trainer or do google searches on how to deal with separation anxiety. There are lots of books on yorkies and just about all of them discuss how to deal with separation anxiety. You want to teach your yorkie not to be fearful, not just medicate the problem. Good luck. |

There are no meds in them just natural stress herbs. PM me if you like. No charge. If you have the catalog you can look them up. Carol |
On this same note... has anyone tried the D.A.P plug-in "airfreshener"? I saw these on a website and then again at PetSmart and was wondering how they work. http://www.healthypets.com/dapdogappher.html |

out. I honestly do not know if it worked because he still barked when I left! I never bought the refill. I now use coins in a can and that seems to be the best.:) |

Have you tried leaving an article of clothing with her or maybe try sleeping with a blanket and then leaving it with her? Sometimes it helps if they have something with your scent on it. Good luck! |
Doggie Day Care I think I may look into finding a good doggie day care for her till I get this figured out. There is one close to me I will check into. I want to see if they have dogs that will get along with Mitsie, she is very social. Thanks everyone for the great suggestions, I am looking into homopathic herbs also. Bee:animal36 :) |
