Is there such a thing.... as a white yorkie? Gracie and I were at PetsMart today and this woman came over to go nutso over Gracie. She then proceeded to say she has 3 teacup yorkies at home. Then she said she had her eye on a "white" yorkie that she wants to buy. I said oh, a blonde yorkie? She said no, a white one. I have never heard of a white Yorkie. Is there such a thing or is this yet another poorly educated "yorkie" owner? If there is such a thing, I would very much like someone to post a picture of one. We had fun a PetsMart though. Gracie got a red "hat" with glittery devil horns on it for Halloween. It is a bit too big but hopefully she will wear it well by Halloween. We met a 15 week old Chihuahua. Her mom was letting her walk on the floor. I sure hope she had her 16 week shots! She was a cutie and got almost as much attention as Gracie did. There was a dog training class going on, 3 large dogs were learning proper manners for how to behave when meeting other dogs and people. The trainer caught Gracie and I watching, and stopped the class to comment on what a cutie Gracie is. She then said to her class, "If you ever want a small dog, that is the kind to get". Was I a proud mama or what? She was obviously a well educated trainer! Ha Ha Ha. |
Tan and silver maybe. Never heard of white. Sometimes the silver can look white before it turns darker. |
Maybe she meant a "Parti" colored Yorkie. They have a white base with colored markings. Someone on Petfind (or something) tried selling an "all white Yorkie" and none of us here on YT thought it resembled a Yorkie. |

Maybe a parti or if she said solid white maybe it was a maltese and she thought it was a yorkie...:) |
Parti yorkies and biewers both have a lot of white on them. There are some on this site, and we know a biewer who has a lot of white...he's a real cutie pie!!! |
This summer I saw what appeared to be a white Yorkie - it was actually a Maltese/Yorkie mix. It looked completely 100% Yorkie and was even very small - maybe about 5 lbs. It was the cutest little dog I EVER saw!!!!! |
A friend of mine has a 3 yr old male yorkie that is all silver. He looks white. They keep his hair cut like a puppy cut.:) Their yorkie is AKC register. Starlene Taffy:aimeeyork & Baby:animal36 mom |
it was probably a biewer that she was talking about. they are yorkies with a piebald white gene. exactly like yorkies in every way, except coloring. they are gorgeous and i'd get one if i had the money. |
My friend has a snow white one and even tho it is not the correct color, it is a purebred yorkie and is the prettiest one she has got. She is a breeder and tells everyone that she only breeds pets, not show dogs but I don't even like the look of her yorkies. |
what about the yorkies from germany? the ones that are black gold & white? i forget what they are called ( biewer ?) but if it's all white most likely it's a mix and she just left that part out of the conversation. |
Could any one answer this, are the "partis" basically a mix breed. Between a Biewer and a Standard Yorkshire Terrier? I know it can get kind of muddy here. The biewers are becoming recognized on their own. |
Oh goodness, it won't get "muddy" for that question. A Parti colored is a purebred. It can be the result of 2 purebred standard colored parents. But I do know what you mean by "muddy". |

No! Nope, never heard of such a thing unless it's a mut(mixed breed)...I could be wrong but I doubt it. I hope for the lady's sake she knows what she is getting and not being taken. Did you tell her that u didn't think there was a such thing as a white Yorkie? Poor lady I hope she doesn't get taken, but then again any dog no matter what breed will always make a great companion so whatever the price may be they r all well worth it. I just hope she gets what she is looking for. |
Discussions can get quite heated when people start discussing yorkies and biewers. Maybe the lady was referring to a maltese. On another group that's how we jokingly refer to the maltese that some of the members have. They kid around and call them that themselves. |
thanks alot Julz, I didn't know that. Things aren't muddy for me now ;) |

Now according to the Yorkie people and the Biewer people these are indeed not the same breed. I have seen huge fights online break out over this subject. In Germany the breed is Biewer and has no relation to the yorkie its, its own breed. They say the yorkie is a yorkie and a biewer is a biewer and NOT a tri colored yorkie |
genetically they are the same except for the piebald gene. biewers came from yorkies. In germany they are in a breed class of their own and they are trying to establish that here too. But to me that doesn't mean they aren't the same. its like any other breed that has 'subclasses' due to its coat or coloring. ie: rough collie - smooth collie; wire, smooth, long haired dauschund; cocker spaniels; beagles (size); etc... would you say that a 13 inch beagle is an entirely different breed then the 15 inch bealgle? i wouldn't. both are beagles, just different sizes. now that's just my opinion |
