Wtf???? I have been bragging on whiskey because i thought she finally understood not to go potty in the house and the last few days i have been finding accidents all over....mostly by the back door and the toilet??? the pet door is open and i have seen her go outside and do her business so what's up with her now??? and she has become really growly at people when they come over but mostly strangers...i had somebody come over the other night to fix my washing machine and she kept growling then i had the plumber over yesterday and she was growing like a crazy dog!!! I put her in her pet taxi.if she doesn't like the show we are watching she will growl until we change the channel then she will lay back down in my lap like nothing is wrong. the other day my husband hollered for me from the other part of the house and she barrelled in there and stood here ground in front of his feet making some of the deepest and loudest growls i've ever heard from any dog...she was so mad she was shaking...i had to pick her up and whisper to her mommy's all right, mommy's all right and then she clicked back into being a little snuggle dog. can dogs have split personalities? if so maybe i should have named her Sybil!!!  |
She sounds like a man - change the channel to suit him then go to sleep.:D Hopefully it's just a phase she's going thru. Roxy was doing pretty good with the potty training till last week when she was spayed. She actually peed on my bed 3 days in a row, right in front of me. I know she was mad that I did that to her. Now she is getting back to her old self and going outside most of the time. |
i hope so too cuz me and my hubby fight over the remote enough as it is...hahahaha!!!!:D i'll be danged if i gotta put my dog on Prozac!!! |
I am so sorry, but this is soo funny that I am laughing :lol tears she is so telling you who is boss. Tyler has been with us for about two weeks now and at first he did not bark, growl or nothing. Now, he must be thinking that he is home and that he has rights just like anyone else, so now he is more than outspoken. he barks, growls and anything else he wants to. People must think we are killing him and all the drama is so that I continue on playing with him. I tell my husband that there is no doubt he is your son. |
Roxy's Revenge? "I know she was mad that I did that to her. Now she is getting back to her old self and going outside most of the time." Actually, dogs do not think like that at all. It is more likely that her whole routine and how her body was feeling caused the peeing on your bed; it is quite traumatic for a dog to be removed from its comfortable home, taken somewhere and given shots, then to awaken a few hours later with pain and perhaps bandages or and Elizabethan collar. When she gets home, it takes a little while before she feels 'back to normal', much as you would, after complete anaesthetic and surgery. "she was so mad she was shaking...i had to pick her up and whisper to her mommy's all right, mommy's all right and then she clicked back into being a little snuggle dog" By picking her up and cuddling her, you are reinforcing the growling and other aggressive behaviours. Instead, distract her-perhaps by calling her, or clapping your hands, and when she turns, reward her for stopping the behaviour. A treat could work as well as a cuddle. If she is doing this with various people and never did before, consider the fact she may be entering a fear period. There are two major ones in a puppy's life; the first around 8-16 weeks, and another between 6-11 months. These are rough guides, as it varies with each dog. So instead of reinforcing her fears, it is necessary to use these times to socialize her, and introduce her to new things-but treat her as she gets used to them-so she does not learn to fear them permanently. This can be difficult with a small pup that is so easy to pick up and carry, but the dog must learn about life like other dogs, or will remain fearful-perhaps with aggressive tendencies-its whole life. Kia will happily go anywhere on lead with me-the few things she is concerned about, ie storm sewers, we take our time getting adjusted to them, so she never worries about them again. |

Very good post!!! Lila's right: we need to be careful that we don't reinforce aggressive behavior. If the aggressiveness continues, I would conssult a positive trainer ASAP! ( <vbg> You change the tv channel because your dog doesn't like the program?!? You must be kidding!) |
I'm sorry all of this is happening to you... but it is pretty funny to imagine your little furball getting all worked up over a tv show and then you changing it! It's amazing the things we do to try to keep these little dogs happy! |
Have you considered the bass in the programs you're watching or a sudden change in tone or volume?? Certain noises annoy Zoie, especially Bass in dramatic shows or music. |

My family had a large yorkie years ago and she always stuck up for the underdog. Sometimes we would pretend to fight just to see what she would do. Once my father was really angry with me and had me by the shoulders. He started shaking me and Cecily came over. She probably would have bitten him, but her barking and carrying on made him stop and control his temper. You do want to try to stop the agressive behavior though. Maybe when strangers come over, you could give them treats to give her. Then she'd see that strangers in the house is a good thing. |
Sounds like you could use a little dog whisperer. It seems like the dog believes she is the pack leader. You need to get thrat under control in a hurry. It will lead to bigger problems. Here is a link to The Dog Whisperer site. He deals with that problem all the time. http://www.dogchannel.com/experts/ce...aspx?WT.srch=1 |
:lol tears :Puppy2: YORKIES RULE !! We've been trained by ours for a long time! :) |
