I'm excited...but not sure Hey there...need some help here. Okay, I have Cooper, 9 months old, neutered male. Have been tossing around getting another one for him. Husband says NO! So I was just browsing the classifieds on line, not really looking (honest!!:D ) and came across an ad for an AKC 6 month old spayed and microchipped girl. Adorable face (see pic). Just for fun, figured she was gone...I emailed. Nope, she is still available. Emailed back and asked some pertinent questions...potty trained, why rehoming, got good responses. Called husband (he's out of town), he says, "sure if you want to, I would be fine with it"  Called the lady and chatted with her, she has her mom, the puppy loves other dogs and kids and minds and everything wonderful. I am meeting her tomorrow morning. So what is the problem, you ask?? Am I doing the right thing...Cooper is my joy and he is spoiled rotten by my husband and myself. He has played well with a few other small dogs (he has a maltese friend he loves and she has been to our house and he played well with her on his territory even). But, he is very possessive of me and of my husband, but especially me and does not like other dogs as a general rule, especially big ones. My husband and I love Cooper so much, we are probably sickening about him...we are so crazy about him. I just don't want to mess up a good thing. But, on the other hand, I think Cooper would love her too. Help me out here guys!!!  http://www.nwsource.com/classifieds/...811694&pid=999 |
I say go for it! If you can afford another one and have the time why not? |
The more the merrier!!!!!!I say go for it...they really are like potato chips you can't just have one!!!!:D |
If you can afford it and offer her a wonderful home, i would get her, she is a cutie! You may have doubts now, but give it a couple of weeks and you will never look back! Im sure cooper will get use to her and they will become best friends! keep us updated :) |
aww, she is such a cute thing. How can you say no with all the good answer and stuff. I think cooper would get use to it long as you keep showing cooper as much attn. Kizzy is jealous of maggie still as far as us picking her up and petting her. So sometimes i'm sitting here with two in my lap. I pet kizzy same as if not more than I do maggie. Hubby actually pets kizzy more seems like. He is paying a little more attn to maggie lately. goodluck and she is a little doll. |
She is a cutie! I can't tell you what to do, but if I was you, I would get her. Let us know what you decide. |
I think Cooper would enjoy a new friend. But - just to make the transition easier for him - when you get the new little girl - but sure and continue to give Cooper the most attention for a while. He needs to continue feeling he is 1st and not being displaced. Remember - how bonded he is to both you and your husband. The new little dog has not formed that attachment yet - and won't notice playing 2nd dog for a little while. Good luck! CArol Jean |
I think he will love her in time!! I'd go for it. I love having 2 dogs and wish I had done it earlier. |
Wow hun you sound just like me. I was in exactly the same situation. My little Louie was my husband and mines LIFE. Love, love love this little guy. Well when he was probobly almost a yr. I thought of getting another for company for him. I mulled it over for a while and decided to go for it. I had all of the same worries as you, but it turned out to be the BEST thing we ever did. Louie and Bella bonded almost immediatly and are the best of friends now. So I say GO FOR IT! I dont think you will be sorry. A little advice though..........when I first got Bella, I brought Louie to the Breeders with me .....just to see what he thought of her....he seemed to like her so when we brought her home I put her in the playpen thingy and let Louie walk around it and check her out.....I figured just so he thought that the run of the house was still his at first and he could feel special....it ended up working and we love it! Good Luck with whatever decision you make. |
Go for it! 1 Attachment(s) I have an 9 month old female and I was in your shoes just about a month ago. I had been wanting a male playmate and I came across my Mozes that way--the classifieds. He just turned 3. I brought him home on Aug 12th. I had a stressful week or two due to some husband issues  but everything is resolved and Mayzie and Mo get along great. It just seemed like they always were together. Mayzie can get a little overbearing with him at times but they do enjoy each other's company. I was afraid of "wrecking" a good thing too but believe it or not I was going to post tonight about how much I love having 2 of these wonderful furbabies. Here's a picture I took today. Please pardon our appearance though. Mo was just neutered a week ago and so we haven't bathed in a while and Mayzie just won't leave her top knot in (grrrrr) Mo is the little one looking at the camera. |
Thanks soooo much for all your responses!! I really do appreciate it. I have been looking at her little face all evening and she seems to be saying she belongs to us already:) I am meeting her tomorrow at 10:00, and I already know if I go SEE that baby, that baby will be coming home with me.:p One other thing, I really am not crazy about her name, so was thinking I would change it. I feel so sorry for her already though, her being given back to her breeder and now being rehomed again, I hesitate to change her name as well. I guess I could get used to her name, but I really don't care for it. Do you think she could get used to a new name at 6 months? Mo and Mayzie are adorable, you certainly make it seem like the perfect thing. And Bama Yorkie Mom, I have followed Kizzy and Maggie through your posts and I always think of them when contemplating getting a new one. And Louie's mom and SnowWa, that makes good sense about the first one not feeling displaced...luckily she is used to being crated, while Cooper is used to sleeping with us, so I think that is a really good thing especially at first. She can be in her crate and he can have his usual run of the house. I am feeling better and better about it, and the more I look at that face the more I think this will be great for all of us!! I will let everyone know the outcome tomorrow, hopefully with pics!!:animal36 |
Good luck tomorrow!!! It just seems like fate that this little one should be part of your family! :D :D :D |
Yes, go for it! (quick before he changes his mind.....lol). When I got my cat......my poodle was the apple of my eye. After a week, they became the best of brothers and sisters. They cannot be apart for too long til this day. |
Sound like a wonderful idea getting another. I have four and they love each other so much. They have their squabbles now and then, but not often. They just let each other know what thier ranking is. I say the more the merrier and if I had a bigger house, I'd get more!! :D |
I get "photo not found", what are you guys looking at? I just got Dennis a new little sister and he just adores her. I think there is enough love for them both and you should go for it! |
