Pet Health Insurance.... Is it worth getting? Hello I was just wondering how many of you out there have pet health insurance for your yorkie's? I'm thinking about getting it for Patrick. If anyone can tell me about your experience with this that would be great. I read on AKC its $35 a month or you can go with the higher plan that covers more for $65. Can you use this for any of your pets. Or does it just cover one??? You never know when an emergency will arise and thats what I keep thinking. If something bad happened I wouldn't be able to afford it. I'm still undecided though. Let me know. Thanks, Pam and "Patchy" :p |
hello i do have pet insurance thru petinsurance.com i have it for both my yorkies and my 2 kittens. I'm not sure if it is worth it yet i will let you know i filed a claim 30 days ago for shots and stuff but have not heard anything yet I'm also sending one in today for sebastain's castration so i will let you know what happens. |
Yes, I'm reading about what they have to offer at petinsurance.com right now. It looks like they are about $10 cheaper and they cover more. Maybe I should go with that. Yes, do let me know how it goes. Thanks! |
Yes, please keep us informed rene, we want to know if they will cover it if (God forbid) some major surgery is needed... Here's some other thoughts from members about pet insurance: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...ight=insurance |
It's is worth it for disasters Unfortunately, unlike our insurance policies, you have to pay everything up front and file a claim. If you are good at that, then it may be worth it. I have VPI for Rexi and so far I have made one claim and ended up getting about 40% of my claim. A broken leg though could be very costly and you wouldn't want to make life or death decisions based on financial cost (especially when good treatments are available). |
I purchased pet insurance for my yorkies and my kittens because i had a rottie that got parvo and live thru it but it cost me around $1,500 then about a year later they discovered she had hepatitas (sp) she lived for about 3 years with it but i cost me a small fortune i stop adding it up after $7,000 she passed away in march 2004 so i purchased pet insurance for my other pets in hopes that if anything happend to them i would at least get 20% back. My insurance pays 80% (so they say i'm still waiting) I paid the vet up front and am waiting to get reinbursed |
