I like floppy ears. My Dixie has floppy ears, I had them shaved to see if they would go up because of reading things on here about the ears suppose to be up...Well her 1 ear at times goes up but not the other one. I really dont mind them being down. she looks cute anyway. Your dogs are adorable, I love the tail too :) What does ears up or down have to do with breeding anyway? anyway i have 1 ears up and 1 ears down, and it doesnt matter to me, there both cute, adorable, loved, and mine lol |
If all yorkies were show dogs, I wouldn't have my furboys. |
Darla has one floppy and one erect ear and Reece at 10 weeks has floppy ears, well one is trying to stand lol...both have their tails intact and I love em'!! Dawn |
re: floppy ears and teething puppies I am very new here and this is my first post. Re: Floppy Ears.... You may be interested to know that in a book about YTs I was reading last week it's mentioned that during teething many Yorkies ears are in a flopped position and do not come up until that discomfort passes. Now that I've jumped in to post I might as well ask: Is this forum only for purebread full blooded Yorkshire Terries who are AKC registered or eligible to be registered? If that is the case I better get off this forum because my puppy has an AKC champion father....but his mother is 50/50 Yorkie/Shih tzu. I joined this site in order to read more about Yorkies because he is 75%Yorkie and 25% Shih tzu. Right now Bentley appears Yorkie looking exactly like many of the sweeties on this site. He has the proper colors and markings. He is 4 months of age (18 weeks) and may change color as he matures. He has floppy ears with fur. This I personally prefer. He also has a tail which curls up and is so cute. Please let me know if this forum is for 100% purebred Yorkies. I don't want to be in a group where I should not be posting. And i do understand if that is the rule. Thanks and nice to meet all of you. |

Floopy ears, Erect ears, short tail, long tail I love them all.:D |
I honestly think all yorkies are just as cute with/without tail, and ears up or down. My one comment in that other thread was that I can't stand UNGROOMED ears, and that's just a preference thing, probably based on what I see the most (here!). Kiki's ears haven't exactly been eager to stand :p, and that's fine with me. I do shave them, and one eventually came up, but the other isn't sure what it wants to do. :p And that's fine with me too. Up....down....one up/one down.....all yorkie ears are cute to me!!! (as long as they're groomed! :D) |

Welcome, you'll learn a lot here! |
personally, i've never seen a post of people making fun of flop eared dogs.Theirs lots of people on here whose dogs have flop ears. I think their so cute. They just look more baby looking to me and I love the baby look in em. So dont worry about that, ive seen so many people post about their flop eared dogs and how they still thought they were too cute. I've even actually posted replies back to people who said their dog had flop ears that I think they look so cute and baby looking. I think your are just as cute as I would if their ears stood up. people make comments about theirs having big ears too, kizzy has big ears. lol, But I think she is still pretty. I think all yorkies are totally different and some i've seen I actually thought were ugly but not many and mine might be ugly to some but to me their mine, i love them just like they are and I felt like everybody here felt just like I do. You have pretty dogs. They look baby looking. I dont mean that in a rude way either, I hope you dont mind my saying they look baby looking because I mean it in the nicest kind of way. They grow out of the baby looking stages so quick and to me thats when their the prettiest. So just love and enjoy the baby look long as you can. :-) |

....HOWEVER.... That's just me speaking in terms of OPINION. My own personal preference actually varies a great deal from my idealistic opinion, if that makes any sense!!! Because some of my FAVORITE dogs here are the ones that don't necessarily meet the breed standard! I'm a sucker for the big, lanky ones, with short hair and floppy ears! I just think they look like such FUN dogs! And honestly, I rarely see a pic of a showdog with the looooong showhair that I think is as cute as, for instance, someone's sweet pet in their summer puppy cut! So it's all good! All a part of the yorkie world, as broad and varied as it is....I'm just glad that we can all meet together here in unity, and respect each other! :) I always think that, beyond the externals, it the love for that YORKIE SPIRIT that unites us! :) |
My Gidget had floppy ears and a long tail. To be quite honest I prefer floppy ears and a tail. My new yorkie as errect ears and a docked tail, but I love her just the same. I even thought about having them make her ears flop, but decided that however she was naturally would be just fine. Regardless if their ears flop or tails are docked we still love them all the same. I have seen some yorkies with huge ears that I don't think looks right, but regardless of there flaws or perfections we love our yorkies just the same and in our eyes they are perfect. They are all cute regardless if they have big ears, small ears, flopped ears or so forth. :animal36 |
Wow, sorry to keep posting to this thread :p, but I just saw on that other thread that I was the one who annoyed you! That didn't even occur to me, since I have a dog with a floppy ear myself :p, and I haven't taped or done any of those "extreme measures" b/c I couldn't case LESS what her ears do! I think it's cute either way! :p Maybe it was my pet peeve about ungroomed ears that offended you, and if so, I've just made it worse by mentioning it on this thread AGAIN! :D If so, I apologize! :p Maybe you can see by my posts here, in case I didn't make it clear before, I LOVE FLOPPY EARS! :p :D Sorry for the confusion! |
hey, My Tootie has HUGE, FURRY, Floppy ears... AND he weighs in at a healthy 15.6 pounds!!!! My new baby, Hope, has "up" ears and is 3.8 pounds. There is no difference to me in either of them except he is a big boy and she is a baby girl.... I have the complete opposite of the Yorkie spectrum and I wouldnt change it for the world. d |

I love lots of hair on the ears. I plan on letting Lola's grow out. It makes them look more fluffy. Everyones preferences are so different and it's fun to look through all the pictures and see how our dogs look. I didn't even know there were yorkies out there with long tails(because I also didn't know they were docked to be short :) I thought they were born with short tails. |
Your babies are cute and I like thelong tails think I will leave my blue boys tail long On purpose to see that fountain your talking about . is it like with the maltese tails cuz I love them too ... I had a poodle with long tail once Loved it ... YOU GO GIRL ! |
OOH!! Everytime I see a yorkie on YT with floppy ears I always comment how cute their ears are!! I love floppy ears!! When Princess was a pup she had her ears down and my family and I kept saying "i hope her ears stay this way!!" we didn't want it to go up (lol) because I THINK ITS SO ADORABLE!! hehehe so just ignore everyone who says it but Id rather Princess have floppy ears!! |
I just want to thank everyone so so much, you are all fantastic and im glad you all understood me!i was just venting. Jiggityjig, yes i was a little annoyed,i didnt realise it was the ungroomed ears thats annoyed you! i thought you meant floppy ears in general! im so sorry for the confusion, :D and thanks for that apology, your so sweet! It was actually another thread in the poll section that really annoyed me. (do you prefer your yorkies ears up or down) a comment was made saying that they dont look like yorkies :thumbdown I love all yorkies no matter how they look, and thanks to everyone for the lovely comments about my girls, i love them like crazy! and am so proud that they are mine! ( and of course i totally understand that many people prefer erect ears, and that is totally fine! ) |

My Daisy's ears never stood and after awhile I was hoping they wouldn't stand up because she looks so cute with them floppy. Someone told me she looks like an Ewok. If I had a choice in the matter, I would have left the tail long too now that I see how cute the long tail is. I don't mind that people don't recognize her as a Yorkie because they always tell me she is adorable and she is the best dog ever, full of personality and cuteness. |

I always read the "floppy ears" threads... because, as you can see in her pics, miss Ginger has floppy ears. Actually, I was a little upset by this in the beginning (way before I found yorkietalk) because occasionally people would make a comment about her ears or her size. But... I just want to say that I have always found the majority of those on YT to be very accepting of all the differences. I've learned so much and seen so many different "looks", floppy eared, long tails, cotton coats, silky, short hair, long hair, tiny, "teapot" (lol), that being a member here has made it much easier to deal with the occasional comment I get about how large my dog is, or how floppy her ears are. (by the general public, no one here has ever said anything negative to me about her). This thread just shows more of the same great support by members! |

I have 4 yorkies - I just got a new baby 3 weeks ago - Harley. Maxx is blonde/steel grey with floppy ears, Evey is black and tan and her ears are erect, Rocco is black and dark red with floppy ears and the new baby Harley is black with lots of grey coming in and his ears are erect. Maxx is 7 pounds, Evey is 8 pounds, Rocco is 15 pounds and Harley right now is 1 pound - and I adore every one of them - i've got a wide variety haven't I? Those people who make those comments are ignorant anyway and don't know what they're missing.:) |
Sooo Dang Cute!!! OMG!!!!!!! Well you have absolutely NOTHING to complain about because....OMG....your babies are sooooo GORGEOUS!!! I freaked out when I clicked on that last picture you posted! OMG, she is soooo cute!!! Can I have her??? PLEASE, PLEASE PLEASE??? Me and Steddy would take REALLY good care of her!!!!!! :D lol, I'm kidding of course, I know you would never part with your babies. But seriously, they are absolutely STUNNING!!! And just for the record, I personally think that the floppy ears are totally ADORABLE on Yorkies!!!!! Steddy's ears were like they for a while and I thought it was PRECIOUS!! :D |
