Getting depressed.... No matter how hard I try, I can't comb the mats out... What should I do? It takes me a few hours EVERY DAY to try to comb them out, sometimes I can't even stick the comb in a mat, it gets so bad :mad: . Especially on the legs and under the chin... Is it always going to be like that? I use conditioner and detangler and nothing seems to help, they are so bad :( . What am I doing wrong??? |
you know what? if its that bad , poor little guy, can you give him a puppy cut?.. it would help so much.... |
Have you tried Cowboy magic detangler & shine? I used to go through the same thing with Mimi and then I bought CM...worked wonders for me!! I also use a flea comb after applying the CM to comb her out. I just got her groomed so she is pretty short now but I have the bottle of CM waiting for when her hair grows again. No lie I used to spend over 30 mins a day combing her...after CM it only took me like 5 mins and the matts were out. |
2 Attachment(s) Oscar had one GIANT matt under his chin - all of his beard hair was caught up in it and it was a lost cause trying to brush through it. The matt was there when I first brought him home and finally at 7mths I told the vet to shave it off when they had him sedated for his neuter! He looked so strange at first, but now I like it... I'll likely keep the chin hair short. But, I'm also finding that now with that matt gone, I can easily comb through it every day - which should prevent matts in the future if I stay on top of it. I keep the hair in his 'armpits' trimmed short too - it gets matted from his harness and just from walking and you don't see it anyways, so it's much easier to just keep it trimmed up. Even with all of those products out there, sometimes the only alternative is to just cut it off and start over! The first pic is Oscar about a week ago at 10mths, the second pic is Oscar right after his neuter when they cut his chin hair (and his jelly beans) off! |
I feel your pain. I too was going thru the same with my boy few months ago. I couldnt take the mats anymore, so i just give him a shave. Now its growing out and better maintain then before. |
Oscar looks so cute without a beard! I love that pic of him. We have a hard time with mats on Roxy, too. We finally cut out the ones we couldn't comb out. There were still some that were right up to her skin so the bet brushed them out while she was being spayed. She looks like a little ragamuffin right now - hair all chopped in spots, but, then, so does my cat who grows mats for hobbie.:D We are using Pantene conditioner now and that seems to help. I agree that you should have him shaved down... you'll be surprised how manageable the new hair will be!! :thumbup: |
Oscar looks too CUTE !! How old is your Yorkie ?? if he's between puppy hair and adult hair - I noticed with my girls, the tangles and matts were worse than their adult hair. I would cut him down and hopefully by the time it grows back all the adult coat will be in |

Rosi was that way too, it was a nightmare, bought couple of grooming scissors and i had to cut into the matt to get it out, thank god she is nice and silky now... Poli is silky and dont have any matting problems. I feel for you ! |

Piper was full of mats when we got her. I kept working and working on them. Finally I cut her down & got all the mats out. Her new hair coming in is so great. Soft as can be & mat free. What a difference. |
Try to find a De-matting tool. I got mine at Petsmart and it is great!!! |

I took her to the groomer and told the dear sweet lady to "cut Chizzie's hair but that I didn't want her to look like a "yorkie" when I picked her up. I just don't like puppy cuts. So we decided on a modified schnauser cut..... here she is |
