Will a fox eat my babies??? I just drove up to find a fox in my front yard. Of course, first thing I did was run out back and bring my babies in. Would a small fox eat them? This is going to be a PIA if I have to worry about them everytime I let them out to go to the bathroom... |
i would be careful with any wild animal, dont trust it ever... |
I wouldn't trust a fox, or any other wild animal when it comes to my yorkies. Do you let them out by themselves? They can be attacked in a matter of seconds by all kinds of creatures, including hawks, raccoons, coyotes, fishers, the list goes on. Personally, I would never let my dogs out unattended. When they go out, I go out with them. They are never out of my sight.:animal-pa |
I wouldn't trust ANY animal! If I we are outside and I need to come in, even for a minute, I take them in with me...Better to be safe than sorry |

I never, ever leave mine unattended in the yard. Foxes are unlikely to attack, but it has happened. They are carnivores. They are distantly related to wolves and coyotes. |
That's what I wasn't sure of. Only problem is that even when you stand there with them an animal can still come right up. There have been cases even on this site I believe where a hawk has come right in front of the owners eyes and taken the baby. |
Have any of you seen the Funniest Home Video segment (didn't think it was funny) with the little boy and dad sitting at a picnic table playing with a little hamster? Well, in the segment they had it walking on top of the picnic table and a hawk swooped in and took it, right in front of them. I wouldn't trust my babies hardly 3 feet away from me. I am constantly watching the sky while I am out with mine. When we have our fence replaced I'm going to have it into the ground at least 10 inches and a cover over the top. You just never know what can come under the fence or over it. |

They make very large covers for them that I've thought about using and I've also thought about a lightweight fencing. I would want them to have plenty of sunshine so I'll just have to wait until we get the new fence installed. |
I think there is a person on here who lost her nursing female to fox when she let her out to potty. It jumped the fence, had a hold of her dog before she could get to her and killed her...It was very sad. |
I would be afraid of a fox killing my dogs |
I remember reading a thread on YT that someone's yorkie was killed by a fox. I tried to search for it, but didn't find it. I'd have to say to be VERY careful and be on the lookout when you have your babies outside! |
Agreed! |
http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...ght=fox+killed That is the link to the thread where the mother yorkie was killed by a fox. |
Even if the fox doesn't kill the yorkie, it can do SERIOUS damage. Also, if you see a fox during daylight hours, it could be rabid. Most foxes are only seen late in the evening and at night. Please be careful with your babies! |
I agree 100% with the others here. NEVER let your baby out ALONE, and always have the option with the leash to pull them to you very quick. I've read so many stories on here that owners have lost their pets to animals, others just going under the fences or thru gates. You have to be with them every minute they are outside and even then there is no guarantee that a hawk won't come by and just scoop one up and take off in the sky. I wish everyone here a safe and happy life with their furbabies, dangers are everywhere but we have to protect them all we can. I hate reading about the sad stories of loosing them that are posted in here. Our two are small enough to get enough exercise indoors. Good luck to all in keeping your furbabies safe. :aimeeyork :aimeeyork |
We were at the pet store over the weekend and the guy behind the counter told us about the different Yorkie's he had through the years. He had one that loved to chase fox's in the woods behind his home. Most of the time the fox's would run away but the one time that it decided to stay and fight, it killed his Yorkie.:( |
I agree with eveyone elses posts. I would never let Rose out without me there also. I just wouldn't chance for a minute something grabbing her. I'm so glad you got home in time. |
