Easiest way to put a bow in her hair? Okay those of you who put the rubberband bows in your puppy's hair, what is the easiest way to do this. Shylah keeps trying to run away from me and she constantly moves her head. How do you do this? Her hair is starting to grow over her eyes and I am going to have to do something with it. Thanks in advance for all your advice!! |
I put Darla down on the couch with her chin flat on the couch, it seems harder to escape this way...and do her hair. She didnt like much at first but she is now a perfect client and sits very still until I am done!! I tell her during the whole time what a good girl she is and how pretty she is!! When we are all done she gets a treat and she dances around likes she knows she is beautiful now!! Dont try anything to fancy at first, but do it daily until she gets used to the routine. She will probably try to get it out and might just do it but eventually she will get used to her bows and elastics and wont even bother with them. You might need someone to hold her and pet her while you do it but if the head is flat it makes her pretty imobile. If anyone else has a better suggestion I really want to know...its tough at first though!! Dawn |
try having someone hold a biscuit or treat in their fingers until you are done. If I want a neat topknot, that is how I do it. we don't get many neat ones done. |

Maybe some shouting too, at least with Dennis this was necessary, it stunned him long enough for me to get the band on then try again for the bow. He was a horror though now he loves being beautiful! I noticed with him that the longer his hair grew, he began to understand why it was being put up. He was also horrible in the beginning to dress, though now if he finds a shirt he insists I put it on him! So it is a struggle with some in the beginning, but it does get easier and some come to just love it! A lot of praise, treats, and persistence. Also a routine of brushing them every day is a very good start! |
I put Lillie on my grooming table so she is more level with me. If your baby is moving around then you need to have some sort of discipline technique. I would try to put some coins in a can and when she is mis-behaving, shake the cans, this noise will anoy her and startle her and she should sit still. Have someone to do this for you while you are doing her hair. Make sure you say "NO" in a stern voice so she knows this sort of behavior is not exceptable. Always have that same can close where she can see it, this way she knows what will happen. |

Boy Bows Thanks for the boy with bows question. I'm getting my new baby boy in a while....I'm in "waiting"! I want to put bows in his hair...but my family has already boooo'd me badly for even thinking about it. Called me shameless for wanting to bow my baby boy. Maybe we need to poll this question...how many Mom's put bow's in their boy yorkies? (I vote YES). BTW - I don't know how to do a real poll on YT. Maybe someone that does knows how can put this question out there. JaTa (soon to be Jasper Tate's Mom) |
I started young with Cali and made a game out of it. I bought a bunch of bows and they are in a bow box. I say to Cali "bow time" and she gets real excited I get the bow box out and she sniffs around and I say pick one and then I pik the one I want and sit her on the bathroom counter and put the bow in. She sits perfectly still. Then she gets a treat and the whole time I tell her how pretty she looks in her bow. I change her bow weekly and redo it every day at least 2 times. Now if I could get her to sit still while I try anfd get mats from under her front legs! |
i put lexi on my kitchen counter where she is level and alsohave lots of cheerios on hand. now i do it anywhere.. |
my male is beginning to wear a bow . what about a barrette or a clip bow? mine pull the barrettes off each other but they work if they don't have help removing them! |

I put a band in my boy's hair but 1 Attachment(s) he won't leave a bow in. I'm just going to let him get used to the ponytail and hopefully later he'll let me add a bow. He is awful about getting his hair done. Sometimes I just have to give up and try again later. I think he likes not having his hair hang in his eyes though. I'll have to try the coins in a can trick. I use this to discourage barking while on walks so maybe it will work for grooming also. |
