Should I call animal control Yesterday, I heard my dogs barking out the front window. Then I heard the neighbors dogs barking in their back yard. I go look out the window and there is an UN-Neutered black lab in my back yard. My back yard is fenced and gated. The gate is always closed because my Otis is a runner. This dog jumped over my fence and was marking all over my backyard. Here's the deal.... This is about the 4th time this dog has gotten in mine or my neighbors back yard. I jumped in my car and was going to go down the street to where he lives. His owner was coming down my street as I was leaving. I yelled at the guy that his dog was in my yard. I've never met him but seen him searching for the dog many times. It makes me sick to think of what might have happened had my boys been out in the yard when he jumped over. I blessed this man out. I told him I have 2 dogs under 10 pounds and his dog has not been neutered. The idiot said "he wouldn't hurt them". I told him that they would protect THEIR yard and probably go at him and who knows what his dog would do if threatened. So.... Should I call animal control. They obviously have a problem keeping him in their yard. There are times when I let the boys in the back yard without staying out there. Only for a few minutes at a time but it would only take a minute. For reasons similar to this I already don't walk them in my neighborhood anymore. There are a couple dogs that are not kept inside or leashed and one of them came across the sidewalk on 3 consecutive walks. After that I just gave up. With so many attacks lately, I can't believe I;ve had to give up walks and be concerned about having my dogs in my own, fenced in, back yard. I'm furious....can I have some advice? The owner obviously doesn't really care. |
Yes! Definitely call them. This person has no sense of right or wrong. |
If there is a leash law in your area... you have every right to report it and get your city to enforce it!! The whole point of the law is to make the streets safer! And it sounds like its not working in your neck of the woods... So fix it!! Don't cower in the back yard! Take your neighborhood back! You should be able to walk your dog whenever you want! Its silly that people can't follow the flippen rules and just end up making life hard for everyone around them. They are just asking for a fine if you ask me!!! See to it that they get one!!! |
Yep CALL...it will be a lesson learned for him! If he wants his dog out he will probably have to pay a fee (at least in Canada you have to) and will hopefully leash or tie his dog in his own yard. I have done it many many times, the dog goes to the pound, they pay to get it out and the dog is back in my yard days later. He is skinny, filthy and mangey...and I still cant figure out why they dont just take the dog from him!! Just tell the pound what you told us and next time he is in your yard call!! Dawn |
My only hesitation was that I didn't want the dog to be put down. Obviously his owners aren't smart enough to figure out a better way to keep him in. I wanted to suggest to the man to have him neutered. He looked clean but he did look a little skinny. I'm glad you described what they do when you file a complaint. If anything happened to my boys, in our own back yard because a dog jumped my fence. I'm afraid of what I might do. |

Yes, unfortunately if they will not control their animals after you have spoken with them, then by all means call! That is such a shame you have to worry about your babies in your own fenced yard. I hope Animal Control will do their job. Good luck! |
I would definitely call animal control, if this guy is not going to keep him dog on a leash and let it roam free, then he needs to be turned in, what if the dog hurt a child? Please call, you need to protect your boys! |
I agree as well. |
OH WOW ...IF it were me - I would Add another 2 feet to the top of the fence - but I have a wooden fence and don't know what kind you have. I would continue to talk to the man and see what you all could come up with before calling - you never know what he could do in retaliation - and if you DO call - tell them to NOT use your name My neighbors 2 dogs...Ray Ray and her son came busting thru my fence the other day - I happened to be outside and man - it floored me - they just knocked down a board and came on thru - so I got them back in their yard and fixed that part of the fence. My neighbor actually gave me 3 fence boards to use the next day - Wonders never cease !! Last time his dog chewed thru my fence I had to board it up and ran out of fence planks... so my fence looks like a drunk carpenter fixed it on that side. |
I would call animal control |
Please call Animal Control, they will give him a warning and if more complaints come in then he may be fined. I had an unleased pitbull terrier  running around the land, I was not worried about my little ones as they are up on the deck, I was concerned with my horses, as he would get in the paddocks. My little ones do not leave the deck nor do they do stairs. However this pitbull could come up on my deck. Call you do not have to give them your name either.:Pawprint: |
Heck Yeah! You have alot more pateince & tolerance.......I would not go out of my way to change anything I do for my 2 Dogs. Your Dogs need to walk for soooo many reasons not just the obvious for exercise but that is part of how we bond with them or interact. You have to stand your ground and defend you and yours, your "Territory"! I would have called "Animal Control" the first time, I do not take any chances with mine. As far as your actual walk or any where in Public on a Leash, my 2 are very Friendly and fearless they will approach any and all other Dogs if I let them? Since mine are well "Socialized" with both Humans & all other Animals. But if I feel uneasy, I always listen to my "Instincts/Gut feelings", I would rather be Safe than Sorry. I know to other people whom do not have Yorkies, I seem very over protective especially b/c I know my Dogs, and what they will tolerate from others. Never take it into your own hands, let the Authorities deal with this Owner and his irresponsibility issues. They are not going to put the Dog to sleep for jumping your fence and marking your yard, but who knows how many other times he has done this while you were not Home? And how many other neighbors back yard he does this to? You are probably not the only one, I doubt if he singles out only your back Yard only? Besides who knows what else he does? By you NOT Reporting it you are just making the Problem worse, I'm not Lecturing you, many YT. Members are very Sensitive and I try not to judge or offend anyone with my comments. (Sorry I had to put my personal disclaimer in there some where?):aimeeyork Can you tell I'm the "Alpha" pack Leader? Good Luck! Aloha* |
Oh Yeah The dog came to your property... I'd definitely call Animal Control! What if your babies were alone in the yard then? (OMG  )... I don't know if you have human kids but a lot of people let their kids alone in the yard, esp if it's fenced in. Would that dog owner treat the situation differently ? (I don't really see any difference as I kinda baby my dog LOL). But it's an unacceptable behavior, they can't control their dog. |
yes call animal control or catch the dog and take him in yourself maybe then this "owner" will get the point! |
