does anyone know... if we can break him of the marking at age 2 or is it too late?? |

he is neutered.. he is neutered but still humping and marking and can't get him to stop is is age 2.... surprisingly he is the one now emerging as slightly aggressive i was really surprised... |

I'll look to see if I can find anything else. So far, this isn't much help... Why does our Yorkshire Terrier keep marking the furniture with urine? We've had him for 4 year's and he'll be alright for a week or so, and then he'll start doing it again. He is a rescue dog and we have a cat. Would having him neutered do the trick? There are many reasons that male dogs will mark with urine inside the house. One major reason is being an intact dog. Therefore, neutering male dogs will usually decrease urine marking. When a dog has been marking for a long time, neutering is likely to decrease the frequency of the behavior, but may not eradicate it completely since the dog will have "learned" to mark indoors. This seems a bit more hopeful... any advice, I have 2 male spayed dogs and I put diapers on them, as I cannot make them stop marking in the house. Lots of dog laundry. Sure hope you can help! This will first of all teach you how to train them and it is not a short process. When they have learnt the basics, sit, heel, drop etc. then you can teach them not to urinate in the house. Hormone medicine as far as I can tell is not necessary. You just need to establish dominance over them and then correct them for marking in the house. I'm sorry, I have no advice. But looks like you're already getting lots of help here. I'd just like to offer my encouragement. It sounds like you're really going through a rough time right now. Whenever we've brought a new dog into the house they eventually worked it out. But I never brought 2 in at once or have someone get truly aggressive. (alot of times what looks scary isn't all that bad, but it can be hard to tell the difference). It took the cat about 3 months to train Kirby (who was here first). Then, Ginger and Kirby had to decide who was boss (Ginger won), but they do usually work it out. Good luck! Keep venting to us! We'll help you celebrate when they work it out! |
How did the play date in the park go? To touch on his marking specifically, here's how we always dealt with it: He would spend a lot of time outside so it would give him plenty of oppotunity to go potty outside and not even on the pads inside, but we also walked him in the morning and he would mark so much stuff that he had no pee left!! Then when he went in the house and went around, he had nothing left to mark with. He has always been very difficult to train, we tried clickers, treats, constant supervision, etc, and he is tricky. Karma, on the other hand, picks up on words and signals very quickly. He may respond well to a class, since we never had the money to send them, we did training ourselves. also, he was the dominant of our two - he and karma had it out several times to establish that (never very hurtful, from time to time one of them would get hurt), so he and snickers probably need to establish a pattern of dominance as well..... |
