dealing with RAGE!! Mason is such a wonderful, sweet, friendly, and loyal puppy....well most of the time :rolleyes: . Yesterday morning, as I was getting ready for work in the bathroom, he grabbed and ran with my pair of glasses and chewed/tore it up into pieces!!! :mad: :mad: :mad: I was soooooo furious, as I had just bought it and my insurance will not cover a new one for a year! (I think steam was coming out of my ears :p ) I felt this rage coming over me, and I just had to keep breathing until I calmed down (I did not want to take it out on Mason). I was so upset with him I couldn't look at him for 10 minutes :( But of course as soon as I got home from work I couldn't help but run over to him and give him kisses :luvu: (you can't stay mad at them for too long....) Have you guys ever felt that kind of anger over your babies??? How do you deal with it? |
I'm sorry agout your glasses....Mine have done that to my hubbys more than once - but as far as rage ...I hate to say this ...but NOPE ! Anything mine have torn up I blame myself for leaving it out - Actually I usually think it's funny - Their faces are usually so hilarious - either they're PROUD of themselves or they look so guilty you just have to smile - The only thing I may do is worry though - that could have been dangerous for your Mason...I hope he didn't swallow any of the plastic.. Maybe he didn't like the style and was telling you something ? :D |
I know where your coming from. I can get so mad at Hercules. It's like he does things to get me upset. I'm having the hardest time with him tearing up his pee pads. He will look at me and bark, grab it and run. Then it's like he argues with me. I have to chase him. To him it's a game. But of course you can't stay mad. Everything has to be up out of there reach. I had no idea that they had such attitudes. Herk demands all of your attention. I am sorry about your glasses. They cost toooo much to have to replace. My daughters dog just chewed hers up. Thank goodness her insurance covered them. |
mymason, the best way to deal with anger is to do exactly what you did. Step back, try to calm down, and redirect the adrenaline. You didn't let yourself take it out on your little guy. Instead you finished getting ready for work and left. That's the best way to cool down. This doesn't mean you shouldn't correct the puppy when he's done something like that but a stern "NO!" will usually do the trick. Everyone knows how frustrating it is to get these little guys past this puppy stage. But, you're right, their cuteness always wins us over in the end. I think that's why God made puppies so cute, cause they can be so infuriating!! LOL! Never, never take it out on your baby. That will only make you feel worse cause then you also have to deal with the guilt. Hope this helps! |
I just remember what it was like with my two sons when they were little, walk away, shut the door, and count to 10. Jack loves to take things out of the dryer when I am trying to do laundry, he can now look into the door when it is open. He loves to grab the first handy thing, and I have lost quite a few pairs of panties and a couple of bras. he is so quick that sometimes I don't notice until I find the remnants. Good luck, and take a deep breath. |
Oh yes! been very upset my dogs plenty of times. When I'm upset with them I will send them to their crate until I cool down. Now my dogs know me so well that they go into the crate by themselves when I'm in a bad mood. They are so funny!! |
whew thanks everyone, good to know that Mason is not the only trouble maker!! Jackandjill, Mason does that too!! except he grabs all my dirty laundry from my closet and runs with it! And he's so fast, by the time I chase him around and grab him, I'm all out of breath :animal-sm I have had to toss out many panties and socks as well. Yorkieagility, that's funny your babies run to their crates!! Mason knows when he's in trouble too, but he runs under the bed where I can't reach him! He has a hiding spot right inside the boxspring protected by woodframes :D Red98vett, you may have a point....Mason and I tend to have different tastes...I shop at discount stores for myself while he shops at divapups....I like fresh socks, Mason loves dirty socks to play with....but man, I thought my glasses were way cool!!! obviously he didn't think so :p |
Oh i can definetally relate to you on this one...a few weeks after i got Baby I had left my retainer sitting out on the table...and it was all plastic. He ate it, actually he killed it. And for some reason my teeth moved a lot after getting my braces off so i HAD TO wear it every night. So now i need braces on top again, and she has eaten my glasses. My boyfriend is keeping a tab on what i spend on her...i think he wants to prove a point.....but even when she ate my stuff i knew it was my fault for leaving it down and i just picked her up and kissed her. SHe is worth more than straiight teeth and proper vision...lol.... and here's the count.. Baby-------500 Surgery----250 braces-----3700 glasses-----350 yeah and that's not even counting all the toys and misc. Oh the things we do for our little babies!!!!!! |
I'm so sorry that happened :( I can understand your frustration. I'm personally pretty laid back but my husband has gotten REALLY upset like that and he does the same as you did, takes a step back and some "alone" time until he is calm again. I agree with what i heartyorkies said, sometimes it is very trying to get them through the puppy stage. |
I completely understand where you are coming from. Diesel has his days when he feels the need to get into stuff that he knows he shouldn't mess with. I also put him in his crate when I am upset or when he is naughty. I think my anger comes from the fact that some of the things Diesel gets into could really hurt him! I guess I am going to have to spray every cord in my apartment to make sure that he doesn't hurt himself. ~ Reagan |
I'm sorry to hear about your glasses- I can sympathize with you, though! My dogs have chewed up some of everyone's "stuff" at one point or another. The kids get more upset about it than I do. I tell the kids "if it's on the floor- it's fair game as far as the dogs are concerned! Pick it up or lose it!" I try to take a visual inventory from my pups eye level every now and then- it is amazing how different everything can look from down there... :rolleyes: Had a dog one time eat an entire large package of gum- wrappers and all- (the kind that has something like 20 some sticks) my son was so upset that the next time I went out that day I bought him another pack, guess what, yep- the dog ate that one too! :eek: Believe it or not I saw no ill effects from all the gum consumption... then again, maybe it really does take 7 years for gum to digest... hmmmm. |
I had babied proof our home when Milo came. My husband still leaves stuff out that can get chomped on. It sucks but that's what a baby is all about. I keep him away from my shoes at all costs!!! He ends up getting my slippers sometimes though. Milo has now learned hhow to get on the coffee table. Now nothing is safe!!! :eek: :animal-sm :animal-sm |
am i the honly one with a dog that doesnt chew up my stuff??????? toby has NEVER chewed up anything of mine (or any one elses) he was pretty satisfied with greenies or nylabones |
Orinsky you are one of the lucky ones, what an angel Toby must be. Jack's favorite play thing is an old torn up pair of my husband's underwear, (mind you I have to put them away when company comes, it looks a little weird to have them in the middle of the den. |

All Leila chewed was socks and underwear. Oh yeah, and drywall. In the middle of the wall. On several walls. My husband called her "The Termite"! I used to get REALLY mad! I would yell and cuss in Spanish, LOL. But I have definitely gotten better about it though. I guess they are teaching me some things too. |
My puppies haven't chewed up anything too valuable yet. I am sure they will eventually but I will blame myself for allowing it to be available to them. I felt that rage this afternoon but it was towards my poodle because he has reverted in his houdebreaking since we got the yorkies and he is pooping in the house "on purpose" I am sure!! He will be outside all day and come in and go hide somewhere where no one can see him and he poops! These aren't little yorkie poos either! I am really trying to be understanding with him and not give him "negative attention, but it was hard to come home to that tonight! Grrrrr! He is really such a big sweetheart and I gave him extra love tonight so i will just have to supervise him better when he is in the house for a while. Thanks for sharing. |
OMG, I am sorry to hear about your specs. I had a similar happening yesterday. I had been working on some records and thought I had zipped the notebook and put everything out of reach! NOT!!!!!!! I had to take one of my Biewer females to the vet and then I came home to a newly papered family room floor. I screeched and set up the X pen in the kitchen and opened the door. They ran inside and just looked at me as I am going nuts trying to pick up paper with a reacher. They chewed some of my HS yearbook and it is 51 years old. Left the pics of HS boyfriend intact. They chewed beautiful handmade note papers, copies of sales contracts, copies of AKC reg and on and on and on. I finally settled down and just said "God, I guess this is your way of telling me I need to be more tidy and organized!" But, couldn't He have done it some other way..like strike me with lightning..LOL |
I can say that Gucci hasnt really chew on many things. SHe has chew on my furniture but finally stop and my everyday sandals. My husband and son always leave their sneakers around and si far she has never has chew on them. Sometimws i wish she would to teach them a lesoon for being careless.. Im a meany, :rolleyes: |
